    So who's brewing this weekend?

Cool and overcast day to brew. All finished with the mash and boil, pH and OG right on target. Whirlfloc in, whirlpool on and cooling down quickly. Thankfully no rain to speak of, just the wimpy spray of misty wet. No drops. I should be able to finish up without getting rained out.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Got all the grains measured out today for an 11 gallon batch of American Pale Ale. Milling brew day, tomorrow. Grains used, about 23 lbs total. Golden Promise and Red X - 9 lbs, 8 lbs. 2 pounds of pilsner, 3 lbs flaked corn and about 8 oz each of biscuit and carapils. Hops... casacade...

Filtering wort from Foundry to fermenter

Thanks for the experiment link. Interesting. Yet there's so much one can do to generalize. Too many styles and variations. I did experiments on the "how clean to make the fermenter" side . For the boil, I do commando on the hops - finding that I get much more of the hops goodness by letting...

Best names for your beer batch?

Inspired for my next Pale Ale ... Calling it Barley Gene Therapy. Brew on... Ha.

Best names for your beer batch?

When my base grains get low, and it's time to restock - I always do a recurring batch with the range of Pale Ale styles ... Called "What I got left". Couple pounds each of MO, Pilsner, Munich, with flaked corn, biscuit, and carapils. Hops? What I got left that I am not sure what to do with.

    What are you drinking now?

A blend ... 33% Blonde Ale, fermented hot with Kveik, Mosaic & Centennial and a Czech Pilsner, 34/70 lots of Saaz. Really tasty. The blonde still needs more conditioning, but in moderation the raw "early beer" is awesome. The Pilsner smooths out the edges. Homebrew blend!

First Home Brew - Pickle Beer - What you think of my plan?

We got massive jars of pickled pigs feet and pickled eggs at some rural gas stations, quick marts. They frighten me. Just not my thing. Don't like sours or fruit in my beer either. Just me. YMMV.

First Home Brew - Pickle Beer - What you think of my plan?

In his defense???? Remind me to not let @FloppyKnockers be my attorney. Hahaha.

First Home Brew - Pickle Beer - What you think of my plan?

Yeah ... Gonna say the same thing ... Pickle beer? Besides not really making me want it, it is going to make things more complicated to brew good beer. Go simple on your first brew day. (No pickle juice, fruit, exotic nuts or berries, etc etc). A pale ale is pretty easy and forgiving and ...

Yeast? How big do you buy?

Thanks the responses. I have a vacuum sealer already so reclosing the pack is doable. For whatever reason, I don't wanna get into harvesting, not sure why. I suspect I fear that I will inadvertently be adding "cooties". I did see somewhere while researching... You can use a single 34/70 pack...

Yeast? How big do you buy?

That is a killer deal on US-05! But yes, I love lagers and my German Pilsner corny just kicked. Grrrr. I have a Czech Pilsner on hand pouring, and another batch in the cool 56° fermenter so I will make it. Might pick up a ten pack of US-05. Nice find!

Yeast? How big do you buy?

So far - I have only purchased dry yeast packets for fermenting (11 grams) but now I am thinking I should go big and save some money. Now this only applies to 2 strains that I use for most batches. US-05 and 34/70 but I bet you could have guessed since they are probably the most widely used...

    Anvil or Megapot for Upgrade?

Yep. Go 15 gallons. I have a 10 and a 15. Ten is mostly retired. Go with 15 if you can.

    Anvil or Megapot for Upgrade?

I would stick with propane heat (or stove top) unless you plan to go 220v power supply. Takes a long time at 110v in an AIO system. I went... 8 gallon, bigger pot with propane outside to a 220v Brewzilla 35L. The big pot was used for a long time with the AIO Brewzilla for a dunk sparge, so it...

Spike Brewing is up for sale

I suspect home brewing has a big leg up vs. craft brewies... First, homebrewing is not capital intensive to learn and to make amazing beer. Many folks already have a 8-10 pot. You can get a can or two of extract and a brew bucket, and save your bottles as the final package. Some cleaning items...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Making a small batch of Czech pilsner (Simon Saaz, more Saaz hops ) - just a 6 gallon batch in the 100L kettle? Yes .... This is batch #2 on the Fat Man (Brewzilla 100L)... And I wanted to see how well it performed on a small sized batch. So far... Excellent! Preboil OG was 1.042 (expected...

    Perlick 24 Inch Kegerator

    Good question

    Perlick 24 Inch Kegerator

I was thinking the local country club is missing a pool fridge/tap. Ha.

    Perlick 24 Inch Kegerator

It will fit 2 corny kegs. (Two 1/6 barrels or a 1/4 barrel, slim or standard). If the compressor is okay... I think that is where the boogy man might be and make your dad right. But if it is something simple - a pretty good deal. The unit is supposed to cool 70% faster and be commercial grade.
