Questions about legality of homebrewing in an apartment

I'm no lawyer and I'm not familiar with the law but I know a lot of people that brew in apartments. As long as you aren't using propane inside or something crazy, which it sounds like you aren't, then I think your fine. Unless there's something in your lease starting otherwise, I believe they...

Oatmeal and milk stout too dry

Was this the Left Hand clone in the ale recipe section? I just brewed this last Saturday. If you used the same quantities then the only difference I see is mash time. I did 75 minutes and you did 60. I don't know how long full conversion takes though. Mine was also at 151° in the mash ending...

Oatmeal and milk stout too dry

Are there recipes and brew notes you can share to help nail down what happened? It could be quite a few things contributing to a lighter bodied stout.

First All grain Attempt coming up!

To add to that, I'd recommend preheating the mash tun with a gallon or so of boiling water. It's easy to stir out a few degrees and much harder to add them. Don't ask me how I know this or how mad it made me.

    Beginner Kit + What equipment

I picked up a cheap digital scale and thermometer at Wal-Mart for a rather cheap. Those are my favorite tools so far. My recommendation would be to recruit a helper! Bottle cleaning, prep and filling is a bear of a task and many hands make light work. Get a buddy and bribe him/her with free...

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

So I got this done today. It's about 40 degrees outside today so that was fun. Had to mash inside and then crank the burner way up outside just to get a boil. Even with all that fun, it's in the fermenter. Pictures show the color before boiling as well as foam color before hot break. This...

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

I'm following the OP. I don't have much experience so I'm seeing if I can follow a recipe well and hit the numbers. Last time I did well with the lemon summer blonde and it's delicious! If I tweak it later, I'll at least know where I started

Adding orange to my chocolate stout

I personally would stay away from the fruit portion of the orange. I've heard that the citrus juice doesn't play well. Now, the orange peel sounds great. When I added lemon zest to a blonde, I used 1.25 oz and it was just about right. For a heavy stout and the fact that orange flavor seems...

    House Party / Need recommendations

As for the blonde, search the ale recipe section for "Squeeze my lemons summer blonde." It's quite refreshing. I feel it would be great without the lemon too but it's all about your preference.

    Lemon Shandy needs sweetness

If you're looking to add sweetness by adding sugar, you would have to recarbonate the bottles with excess sugar and pasteurize when it gets to the desired carb level again. This leaves added sweetness by killing the yeast before they're done. You risk oxidation so it's not a great idea in my...

    Cincinnati brewery

The other big one that comes to mind is Madtree. I don't know their hours though. Their space is pretty awesome. I've had a few good stouts from them.

    First Brew Day

On second thought, be sure to double check your priming sugar with an online calculator. My numbers I'm getting for you are closer to 1/2 a cup for 5 gallons. I'd prime with 3.8oz (0.54 cup) to get 2.3 volumes but I don't want to mess you up. I'm new too. If your instructions differ then...

    First Brew Day

That sounds great! Don't over think it. The goal is to get priming sugar mixed in your beer then put it in bottles. It may be a good idea to stir after siphoning into the bottling bucket. I have had uneven carbing the last 2 batches and will start a gentle stir before filling bottles. Enjoy...

Advice on what to brew next? (First AG batch)

I just did my first AG batch a couple months ago. It's tasty now and it didn't break the bank. Total grain bill minus lemons is $27. Based on this Lemon Blonde Ale It was a heck of a learning experience even after all the research. Plan on a brew day that's 6-8 hours depending on obstacles...

    First Brew Day

Revvy has a great in depth bottling guide here. As for the bottles, I can't help much with the effects of different bottle sizes. I imagine the priming sugar would be adjusted a bit for larger bottles but I don't know. Edit: fixed link

Where to buy a good mash tun?

I second the DIY route. I got all my stuff from home depot and Target. In total it cost me $40 or so. If you buy one pre made, it will be at the very least $100 from what I've seen online for cooler types. More expensive for SS ones.
