    Hair Dryer for Temperature Control?

I read somewhere of someone using a hairdryer in a chest freezer to control fermentation temps. It was connected to a temperature controller. Personally I think this is a great idea for a few reason; first of all we have any extra hair dryer so I wouldn't have to purchase anything, rather than...

    Why extract?

For me it is simply a matter of time. I enjoy brewing and can make an extract brew during the day, while working in my home office. I don't have the time nor desire to do AG.

    BIB shelf life?

At least a year past the expiration date and probably longer. As long as you don't let air in then it should be very shelf stable. Worst case scenario is that it starts to taste bad. I spoke with an employee of Coca-Cola that uses the expired product at home becuase it is free to him and he...

To Secondary or Not? John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff Weigh In

Just got through reading the entire 37 page thread, lots of great information. I have always used a secondary and know I just need to take the leap and go right into the keg but the thing that is stopping me is that after each secondary I seem to have a layer of trub that I wash out of the...

Now that I can control my fermenations temps....how should I?

After many years of brewing I have finally gathered up the equipment to control fermenation temps, now that I can control them I need to know how I should control them. I have probably brewed 50 batches of beer with no temperature control, sometimes I used ice but most of the time I relied on...

After brewing for many years I have finally gathered up enough equipment to control my fermentation temps. I have purchased a Ranco 111000 and have it wired up and working with my 7 cu ft chest freezer. I have done a bit of research here using the search button but still have a few questions...

Chest Freezer Setting with Temp Controller?

Been watching Craigslist for a long time and finally scored a chest freezer to ferment my brews. I have an A419 temperature contoller and wondering what temp I should keep the freezer set on? It has a variable dial on the side...should that be set high, low, middle, or does it matter?

What's your favorite online store for beer kits?

They would have to give you the hop addition times or there would be no way to make the beer. My understanding of the Austin kits has always been that they didn't tell you the actual ingredients that you were using but instead used general term. For instance you got "Specialty Grains" instead...

What's your favorite online store for beer kits?

I made my first purchase from ritebrew a few weeks ago, the beers at in the primary right now, I agree you can't beat the price. I will be interested to see how the beers turn out. I had thought about buying some kits from Austin a few years ago but at that time they didn't include the...

    No More Stove.....Burner Questions

Brewed my 50th batch today....the previous 49 on the stove, the last one on a turkey fryer. What a difference, sad part is that I have had the turkey fryer on a shelf in the garage for years but never got around to using it. It use to take 30 minutes to get water\wort to boil now it takes...
