    Fermentation temps

I also don't think my garage will fluctuate "that" much. If the outdoor temp only swings 15 or so degrees in 24 hours with 1 warm wall I would think the garage would change even less I would imagine.

    Fermentation temps

I know the swamp cooler idea but I don't think my wife is going to go for one running in our bonus room.

    Fermentation temps

Nord that is probably very true but without a "easy" way to keep temps as low as I want I think the garage is my best bet. I don't think the temps will swing wildly of course if they appear to I will move indoors. My main question I guess is what's "worse" the chance of temps fluctuating a...

    Fermentation temps

Thanks dark that's basically what I was thinking. Think I will leave it out there a while are what the temp is tonight before bed. If its lower than I want I will move it upstairs. If its in the right range guess I will leave it.

    Fermentation temps

The swings are my concern but it seems for at least a few days they should be minimal. My other option would be to use our bonus room which generally stays quite a bit cooler than the rest of our house. But it's carpet which means a blow off would really suck and it's on The 2nd story and I am...

    Fermentation temps

So I just did a partial mash ale recipe. Pitched the yeast around 70 degrees after using my wort chiller to get down to temp. My question is where to ferment. We live in Memphis so the temps this week look pretty consistent with highs in mid 50s lows in low 40s. We keep our house in the upper...

    Copper chiller

Thanks all. All good points. I hadn't thought it would sanitize itself since wort will be boiling initially but that makes perfect sense. Shelly great point by you too. Definately had not thought of checking that.

    Copper chiller

I am very excited I received a copper submersion wort chiller for Christmas along with a few other supplies and goodies from AHB. My question for those experienced with using these chillers is if there is anything I need to do before initial use? Other than the obvious wash it and sanitize it...

    Whole Hops or Pellet?

Personally I like the whole hops just for the aroma while using them. Nothing like hat fresh hop smell!! But from what I understand is that usually pellets are more efficient than flowers. At least that's what I have heard I am still a bit of a noob so I can't really attest to just how true or...

    Whoa. Will age help?

Tallgirl you need new friends for sure. If anyone is into DIPA's I suggest you travel to new England and hit up some heady topper from a brewery called The Alchemist. To die for DIPA. I'm a hop head but looking to do something more dark for my next brew. I tend to stick with ambers/apa/ipa...

    Bjcp scores?

Well I hardly consider myself a "great" brewer, but it certainly was nice to see that my 2 entries were well recieved and judging by the comments pretty well liked by the judges. I entered 1 competition maybe 5 years ago and did not score well, but that was mostly as expected. Due to family (i...

    Bjcp scores?

Ok so I entered 2 desperate entries into a small local octoberfest competition near here. I entered in 10a just a regular pale I had laying around and then in 10b with an amber I had made (with some formulating help from a friend) that was designed to have the amber malt/color but was high on...

    Mix and Match

First post, as another Noob to the board... But I found this thread and couldn't help but to throw in my .02cents. I JUST finished doing a "hopped amber" at a local brew fest near here last weekend. It went over pretty well, I had a few people who did not like it, but that's to be expected I...
