What RPM do you run your grain mill at?

Well, I dont own a 2 roller, but I can tell you that my LHBS has a 2 roller MM with 1.5 rollers. Not sure what his gap is set at but I always had tons of husk shreds on his mill when we ran it dry. That vs my 3 grain mill... I had flour at .035 without conditioning, and I mean pure flour, almost...

What RPM do you run your grain mill at?

When the malt is conditioned the whole thing has to be squashed and that's why it takes more torque. When it's dry the husk shatters and then it's easy to push through, but when that doesnt happen due to the conditioned malt it's a lot more work. Well I didnt have any 3/8 rod, but I did...

What RPM do you run your grain mill at?

Good idea, I'll have to try it, I can run to lowes and pick up some sheet metal and mod my hopper. The other option I suppose would be to increase my gap from .035 to .040 or something like that, which might help a fair amount as well.... But I get such an amazing crush with .035 and...

What RPM do you run your grain mill at?

Well, tested the mill.... 90 inch pounds still isnt enough. It was close though. I could dump about 2 coups in at a time and it would survive, but if I filled the hopper it would bind. I'm going to have to get a higher torque motor and then use the same gearing to double the torque again, haha.

    burgerbrau yeast

So a friend of mine gave me a bottle of BB burgerbrau pilsner, which tastes almost like liquid bread. He gave it to me in the hopes of having me cultivate the yeast. I have no idea what kind of yeast is in this guy and I'd like to know so once I grow it up from the bottle I know how to use it...

What RPM do you run your grain mill at?

On the chain comment... Sense all my grain is conditioned before use I get next to no flower, and the motor is above the dump so very little flour dust gets up there even if I dont condition, so I dont think that will be a problem for chain wear, if it starts to I'll just clean the chain if I...

    Barb Fitting Conversion???

It's 3/4 hose barb. There is an option for you. You get a 3/4 ID piece of tubing and slide it on, then get a 3/4 barb fitting that has a female 1/2 NPT input, then get a 1/2 barb with 1/2 male NPT pipe fitting, screw them together. You now have your barb converter. The silicone...

What RPM do you run your grain mill at?

Just a heads up for you guys, I have a 42R-E bodine motor with almost the same specs as the one you bought, but it's 45 inch pounds of torque instead of 40 and 170 RPM. Here it is...

    Drilling kegs

Well, I got 8 holes out of it and they were exact, with a nice clean cut that only needed some light filing to clean the back edge off. Of course I payed about 40 bucks for the bit from lowes, but it was worth it. It has not dulled or changed size, it made life really easy. But I justify the...

    Drilling kegs

So I was just finishing up the royal PITA that drilling all the holes needed for a 3 keggle brewery are and am sad to say that I waited so long to buy a certain drill bit..... I've broken quite a few kobalt brand 1/4 drill bits as part of their hole saw set on the first keggle... Then I...

    Master vs working yeast sample

Hmm... Ok well I'll put a pressure cooker on the list of things to get then. This first time around everything was brand new and never used so I didnt have any yeast to get rid of, just had to do the initial sanitation, so I hope I'll be ok. but from now on when I re-use vials, etc I'll...

    Master vs working yeast sample

I may have to get my self a pressure cooker. Right now I just used starsan, but that was on brand new vials and equipment. Luckily though out here in colorado we have almost no mold due to how dry the environment is.

    Master vs working yeast sample

Hmm.. thanks. I like skyforger's idea, but I can see why one would do it the other way too. I'm glad that mutation doesnt seem to be much of an issue for the home brewer. Just for my curiousity can you give some details as to why? Thanks. I've read that at -20deg C you can expect the...

How do I pitch the yeast starter?

Yes, you dump the liquid off the top while trying to pick up no yeast the best you can and only try to pour once. If you have to tip back and then forward again you will pick up more yeast, so gently and slowly try to dump the good majority of the wort off the top of the yeast cake in the start...

How do I pitch the yeast starter?

I do similar to FishH20 except that I dont take the wort out of the kettle after chilling and place on a stir place. I use a plate chiller and can get my wort down to 60 from boil in about 5 minutes (5 gallon batch). Once the wort is chilled I simply pitch the decanted starter. Note that I...

    Master vs working yeast sample

So I cryo froze my first yeast this weekend. I got my hands on some fat tire yeast and decided I never wanted to run out so I got an international harvester chest freezer (for 25 bucks!!) and it holds a consistent -27 to -30 deg C. Used a 30% glycerin solution on the yeast and made at least two...

    Sweet Stout Yeast

I typically use WLP004 for my sweet stouts, I brew a chocolate orange stout that many like and it usually ends with a 1.022 - 1.028 FG depending on what I decide I want the OG to be (1.069 - 1.079) including 1lb of lactose.

Lager Fermentations - blow off tube?

Currently I have a lager at 50 deg F with an OG of 1.081 and WLP 833 as the yeast. I pitched a 3 liter starter into the guy and aerated well, normally when I do that with my 1.072 chocolate orange stout with WLP004 it goes NUTS and I have to blow off. Given the above it will depend on your...

    Cleaning/draining a complete 3 keg brewery

What kind of fittings are those that you put, what appears to be SS tubing, into the end of the tri clap fittings? Yea I just did some math on a basic layout idea... I need 23 SS elbows to get the job done, I can get them for 1.55 a piece for 304 SS from murray equipment, to do the same job...
