    Lower temps when yeast pitched

Thought that too friarsmith; about less active due to the cider. Maylar the yeast was room temp (66) and the cider which came out of fridge then sat a while to let come to room temp, only got to 53-55. Idk why I put the cider in fridge. I never do that. There's little activity in there. I did...

    Lower temps when yeast pitched

So I wasn't thinking I guess and when I made my cider this time I stored the cider in the fridge before my process. Of course it was too damn chilled for the yeast. Not wanting to let it sit overnight I tried to warm it best as possible and got it to 53f roughly when I pitched the safale 05. Any...

    Drunken Farmer Imperial Saison

Bottled today. Sampled a little bit to see what I can say is that I was very worried bc of the mold scare and then when I opened the bucket and racked to bottling bucket the smell...idk. funky might be the right word. Also there was this oily residue I guess on top here and there. I used a...

    Drunken Farmer Imperial Saison

    Can beer get mold?

Wasn't aware that head space could cause issues. FIgured that's what the airlock was for. SO you wouldn't dry hop for a week as directed?

    Can beer get mold?

Well I brought it up to sit on counter so I can rack it. I'll taste it as well. What I saw was what looked like white little floats. Seemed furry but couldn't tell bc of carboy. Yes the instructions say 4 wks secondary. I did sanitize with star san. Read on another post that the syphon in hose...

    Can beer get mold?

I'm on week three of the four week secondary as instructed for this drunken farmer kit and I look and I see a few white clusters. This looks a little more concentrated than the sudsy ones I've seen with wine and my other beers. I'm pissed this may be mold clusters. What should I do. I was to add...

    Carbing question

I have a carbing question in regards to my awaiting drunken farmer saison. I looked at northern brewer priming calculator and it shows a saison as 3.0. I've never attempted that and was curious to know if there's cause for concern or not? I have not had any issues with the bottles of IPA thar...

    Drunken Farmer Imperial Saison

Was curious what anyone thought...this recipe calls for dry hopping two ounces of hops before bottling. I did one ounce with the IPA I made and I have to say it may be too much for me. I was wondering if I should skip the dry hopping altogether or maybe just use one ounce instead if two. I'd...

    Drunken Farmer Imperial Saison

Foamed up, changed airlock out with a tube and water vessel for blow off but the dang still blew the bung off three times before it finally calmed down....wow

    Drunken Farmer Imperial Saison

Got the kit a week ago and made it last night. OG was 1.084 which if it finishes at the projected 1.010 makes it about 9.5% wanted it higher but that's the kit ingredients with 5 total gallons of water used. Guess I shoulda added 4.5 first then tested it.

    Drunken Farmer Imperial Saison

Looking forward to it. I'm planning this one even though price is a bit high. But I figured to bottle in the 750ml and at 10 or 11% I'd only have one in a sitting

    Drunken Farmer Imperial Saison

Anone still looking at this thread? I am planning on getting the drunken farmer kit. Was wondering how it is and how it turns out. Does it need a lit of bottle time before drinking? Or bulk aging? I bought some 25 oz bottles just for this beer.

    Clearing out the beer

Mattdee1, I hear you. In fact I do lug the carboy upstairs usually the day I rack. Thank the misses for that. Every time I've done that I've thought, man I should leave it for a day at least to settle. But she'd have a hard time with that. Will do that next time and see. And I usually leave...

    Clearing out the beer

I'll leave a bit in bottle next time and post a pic...See what you all think. Also gonna try leaving more in carboy when I rack to bottling bucket.

    Clearing out the beer

I probably left in primary two week and secondary for 2 weeks. I was careful when I syphoned however I think that bc I don't want to lose out on some I go too far with it. Trying to get every possible bit yet finding a balance with the sediment. I used cheesecloth as a filter when I racked to...

    Clearing out the beer

So I made this calypso IPA kit and for the most part I'm happy with it. During the brew process I followed the directions and did the same when it came to adding the Irish moss for clarity. Now this is a clearer beer but does have a haze to it. Also I'm upset bc I'm seeing particles in my beer...
