    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

I use a Brewzilla 3.1.1 and throw my hops in commando, don't have too much problem with blocking the pump. If it does block, simply put some air pressure backwards through the pump and it will clear easily. DO remember, however, to always pull the recirc tube up out of your wort prior to...

    Weird question....distilling beer

The wife and I were talking about a batch of mead that I made that neither one of us can stomach. We were talking about how to save it, and distilling it came up. She then asked me "can you distill beer?". I have no f'n clue and she keeps asking, so I thought I would put the question to those...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

I would think that your hops utilization would be worse than a spider doing it that way. You would have minimal wort circulation around the hops unless you used the pump to pour it back in the top as you boil, but they say to NOT use the pump during the boil due to very shortened pump life...

First use of Hop spider....my impressions

Since I started brewing on a Brewzilla, I have stopped using anything for containing the hops on the hot side. By using the whirlpool arm during chilling and then letting it rest for 5 minutes, all of the hop matter (I'm sure that a small bit gets through, but it's minimal) collects on the top...

adding sugar to wort after the boil

I don't think the expected 1.060 is correct. I just plugged in 11 pounds of a generic Pale malt and six gallons into brewfather, and it showed 1.051 @ 78% mash efficiency

    Abysmal Mash efficiency

OK, so I have a total of three all grain brews under my belt. I am brewing with a Brewzilla 3.1.1. First one was an IPA recipe by David Heath (you may have seen his YT channel). I hit just 1 point below all the numbers, which put my mash efficiency close to 75%. The second was a Citra Maris...

Leave or remove first addition hops during whirlpool

I pretty much think that by the end of 60 minutes of boiling, those hops are totally spent and you aren't going to get anything else out of them. YMMV Lon

Leave or remove first addition hops during whirlpool

I'm 99% sure that all the recipe software calculates the IBU's (and recipes as written) are based on once the hops hit the wort, they stay there. Lon

    Question concerning sparge

I brew on a Brewzilla 35L. In a typical 5 gallon recipe, I am only using 1.0-1.5 gallons of sparge water per Brewfather. I am concerned that I am not getting a good rinse of the grains with that little water. My question is, would it be beneficial, at the beginning of the sparge, to drain off...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Either way, it is downward force, and if the weight of that bag is going to be an issue, I would seriously be worried about those joists supporting the floor above them. JMHO Lon

    Northern Brewer and ship times

I thought I would come back and update this post. To their credit, they did cancel the order and issue refund to my PayPal. Downside it that it took two days to get it done (on a Sunday, no less). Edit: Just made the exact same order(including malt houses, so a total oranges to oranges...

    Northern Brewer and ship times

I placed what will likely be my LAST order with NB last Sunday. Last night, I emailed customer service, asking what was up, as I am used to seeing orders shipped in two business days. The response was: "We apologize for the delay! The warehouse has been very busy of late, and we are running...
