    Stone to layoff employees

Please tell me where in the Newark area beer is $0.35 per glass. 35 cents!? I'll be there. Tomorrow!

Make the Father in law proud kind of brew

I had a similar issue with my FIL. Finally realized trying to get him to like something he doesn't like was a waste of time. He'll most likely NEVER eat his words for you and no offense but he probably sees you as a puppy dog. The next time he makes a p*ssy comment tell him "if you see a...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Finally got my stand built and brewed the first beer on it this past week. There are still a few small details I need to install.

    Bottling

I think the most important issue here is how much oxygen the growler caps let get pass through. If they don't seal out oxygen then they would not be suitable for long term storage. Just because the caps don't leak liquid does not mean they keep oxygen out, O2 is a very small molecule and can...

Gardening Frustrations__ The season of the Varmint

12 gauge is smaller than a 10 gauge so it should be legal pretty much wherever shotgun hunting is legal. IIRC, this naming convention comes from how many lead balls of that bore size it takes to weigh one pound. In other words it would take 10 lead balls at 10 gauge bore size to weigh one pound...

Can I cut my c02 dip tube to get more beer in the keg?

I have two dozen 5 gallon pin lock kegs. I have not cut any of the gas tubes only using what came with each keg. 15 of these kegs came with a very short, approximately 1/4" long gas tube. A couple had very long, approximately 2 1/4" long gas tubes. The rest of them have 1 to 1 1/4" tubes...

Mini deep freezer to cool a fermentation chamber?

I made and use a fermentation chamber with which I ferment 12-13 gallons of ale or lager in, using a similar sized freezer. I completely stripped the freezer cabinet and built a chamber using 3/4 plywood sheathing, 1"x3" framing and 2" hard insulation (polystyrene I think, bought it at Home...

Back to Back Stuck Fermentations - What am I doing wrong?!?

Techy is correct, there is a calculation to estimate abv using refractometer readings but once alcohol is present the best accuracy is using a hydrometer. The fermentation may or may not be stuck.

Keezer collars - which wood to use?

I used 2x fir for the inner pieces and 1x poplar on the outer. Sealed and primed with Kilz then painted the poplar dark brown. My keezer is in my basement so I wasn't looking for a finished furniture look.

    What are you drinking now?

    My Wit beer.

Clever ways to individually prime bottles?

You can do that though I have not. It adds a bit more work but if you have the time.... I'd recommend using a dosing syringe to measure a solution of water/glucose (or sucrose if you wish). The solution can be easily sanitized by boiling. Dosing syringes are generally graduated in mL...

    Bottling with 64oz growlers

Thanks for posting. I make 12 gallon batches and these will be perfect for the remainder after filling two corny kegs. Just ordered six of these.

Help centering my washer on stir plate

No, first I made a small circle that would be visible through the center of the washer then a larger circle(s) that would be visible outside the washer and used those as alignment marks.

    Mashed too high

If I understand mashing, the higher mash temps leave longer sugar chains then lower temps. If you spent the proper amount of time at the target temp after cooling to the proper temp then the sugar chains should be what the recipe calls for. Had you done the opposite, i.e. mashed to low then the...

Help centering my washer on stir plate

I used a contrasting Sharpie and made a series of concentric circles on the fan hub while it was rotating slowly, then used a wee bit of RTV silicone sealant to attach the washer to the fan hub. After curing I used again a contrasting sharpie to make more concentric rings on the washer for...

Pennsylvania FS: 5 gallon Pin lock Kegs (4 available)

With all due respect Sir, I will pay you $35 apiece for these kegs. I'm in the Wilmington, Delaware area and if you would be willing to meet me at the Total Wine in Claymont, Delaware I'd pay you an extra $10 for bringing them down. That would total $150. I'm not trying to beat you down but...

Would you use and old/dirty carboy?

When I first started brewing in the 80's I bought a couple extremely fouled carboys from a newspaper classified ad. I used a strong bleach solution that stripped everything off that glass, when it was finished they looked brand new. IIRC, I used about a cup or two of bleach and water to fill...

    Ditch the pH meter?

Can you provide a link to that please. I purchased and then never used a ph meter. I build my water using Bru'n water and my beers turn out fine. I'd like to read that primer so I understand better. Thanks
