    Propane burner

Does anyone here use thier propane burner indoors? I've always read that you shoul not. However, I'd love to get my complete setup going in my basement, but I'm concerned about the burner. Moving everything outside on brew day is a pain in the ass. Thanks

    Question about OG and vodka

It was a Midwest extract kit. Included specilaty grains as well. Recipe said if you can 2-3 gallons during boil, but if you can do more than go ahead. I have an 8 gallon pot, so I did a 6 gallon boil knowing I'd lose about a gallon during the boil. Could that be the difference?

    Question about OG and vodka

Brewed up a pumpkin ale recipe yesterday. Recipe called for OG of 1.04, but mine came in at 1.03. Was hoping to hit around 4%-4.5% alcohol on this. Do I have hope? Also, I will be soaking a vanilla bean and cinnamon sticks in 8 ounces vodka. When I add to the secondary, do I add just the...

    Wort Chiller question!

I have a copper wort chiller. I have read where many brewers place thier wort chiller directly in the boil during the last 5 minutes to eliminate contamination. My question is this. As my chiller has the plastic tubing connected directly to the chiller via clamps, wouldn't the chiller get so...

How often should I change plastic tubing?

Here's a question. How often do you guys/gals change you plastic tubing that you use for transferring beer from primary to secondary or to bottling bucket? I mean, it's pretty cheap at Lowes or Home Depot, so I wouldn't mind fresh tubing each time, I just don't know if it's required. Thanks

    halting stop to fermentation

On Saturday (6/23/12) I brewed a summer wheat beer. Rehydrated yeast and pitched. All seemed fine. OG was 1.038 (target was 1.04-1.042). Fermenter is on basement floor. Temps here in the Northeast have been hot. Basement temp is around 77 degrees. When I checked it Sunday morning (6/24/12), at...

Awesome feedback as usual! Gotta love homebrewing! You guys and gals are great! Thanks for the tips! I think I will simply put some sterilized foil over any openings with the lid on over the wort chiller. I think I will be fine. By the way....brewing my own recipe next week....Red Warrior...

    Brewing outside??

Going to grab a propane burner this weekend as I really want to do full boils. Here's my question/questions: 1. Do you risk more contamination doing this outside? 2. Do I do ALL steps outside (i.e. boil, cool down using a wort chiller, transfer to fermentor, agitating and yeast pitch? It...

    Force carbonating

I'm picking up a dual keg system next month and will use it in converted fridge. CO2 tank has dual regulators allowing control over 2 kegs at once. My question is, as this unit will be sitting in the fridge, can I force carbonate one beer in the fridge while drinking the other, or do I need to...

    Base Malt Question!

Going to attempt brewing up a clone of 21st Amendments Bitter American. Recipe calls for Golden Promise pale malt as it's base, but I was considering using Maris Otter in its place. Any thoughts? Also, I was thinking of adding just a touch of Sorachi hops to give it a hint of lemon. Any advice...
