Brewing Hand Sanitizer Using Brewing Equipment?

Thanks for clearing that out. In our area, I’ve only ever seen the 190 proof stuff so I was unaware of the weaker stuff. I actually made mine out of the generic stuff called Diesel 190.

Did i pitch too much lager yeast?

Mr Malty is a pitching calculator. But I usually just do a 2l starter for all batches bc that’s the biggest flask I have

Brewing Hand Sanitizer Using Brewing Equipment?

Easiest homemade hand sanitizer is 1/3 cup aloe, 2/3 cup everclear 1/2 tsp olive oil. A few drops of essential oil of your choice. Trick is alcohol content of final product needs to fall btw 60-80 abv. Below 60% it becomes ineffective and surprisingly above 80% also becomes ineffective. I...

    Mexican Lager

Agave is very fermentable, like honey. Fermented agave is how you make tequila

    Mexican Lager

The Agave didn’t come through at all. I think either add more to try and get a little flavor out of it or leave be and just use as a abv boost.

Looking to brew a Pilsner... do I need to cold crash?

Mangrove Jack M54 might be a good option for yeast. It’s a lager hybrid that works best 64-68F

Saving yeast at the starter stage (?)

I build 2L starters, pour 250 ml into a mason jar and put in fridge till next batch (keep lid loose). Then on next batch decant the liquid and add the yeast to next starter, repeat. No real need to build it back up until your next batch.

    Vienna

Wanted to brew a Centennial blonde this weekend but LHBS is out of Vienna malt. Will the 8oz of Vienna it calls for make that big of a difference? Could a little crystal 45 be a substitute? Any suggestions Thanks

can i use any type of wood to age whiskey?

Hard to say. Have you heard of anyone else doing it? You could put a small amount of whisky in a mason jar with some finely chopped chips. Alternate moving from the jar from the freezer to the cabinet (24 hr freezer, 24 hr cabinet). Shaking each time. This will speed the aging process from...

    Lager-like ale

If you are really interested in lagers, your first upgrade should be a cheap chest freezer. I found mine on sale for $130. But you could also find a used one cheap, then add a temp controller such as ink bird. Most will say it was the single upgrade that made the most drastic difference

    Stirring during dough in

Wouldn’t mixing too much cause oxidation I’ve always read to minimize oxidation at all points except just before pitching

    Stir plate suggestions?

I meant to boil the wort in a lab grade flask. Letting cool and then adding yeast to minimize transfers.

    Stir plate suggestions?

Anyone use a combination hot plate stirrer? The idea of boiling and stirring in the same place seems appealing but not sure if the extra cost is worth it

    Mexican Lager

It’s another substitution for corn. I was out of flaked corn and low on grits so I improvised. Papizan in the ‘Joy of Homebrewing’ talks about using starch instead of corn. In the mash the end result is the same. Although the starch has a higher efficiency. Update: after a couple weeks...
