I agree with the last post... It's likely a high vacuum vessel. You don't want to be punching any holes in it. If it is there's probably a vacuum port somewhere on the outside of it.

Opto22 ... Use em at work for 24/7 medical systems and I use them in my panel and and controllers. Never had any issues, still have never even had to replace one at work.

My Setup

Amp = Watt \ Voltage ... So a 4500w element pulls around 19 amps. It would work and should boil 10 gallons, but I'm afraid to advise you that would be acceptable under electrical code. I wait for someone to chime in with a better knowledge of how much you can load a circuit safely.

1 5500w element pulls around 23amps, that's what I use in my 20 gallon kettles. You will definitely need at least a 30 amp service and you could run one element at a time with pumps, but you still won't be able run both elements at the same time.

You could just use male receptacle plug with a little pigtail , you don't have to have the mounted receptacle.

Finished up labels and added a few LEDs next to pump switches.

Lots of people use the PID to controll boil so its pretty much tried and true. The SSVR will offer much tighter control but in the end were just boiling wort right. I guess the PID would have the benefit of temp monitoring and alarms, not that it's really necessary in the boil kettle but convenient.

Why dont you just use the pid in manual mode to control the boil... you can set it to about 85% or so. No need to rewire anything. Do you have a control panel? or do you just plug power right in ?
