How do you lower your costs of brewing?

That about sums it up. Using tap water is the only other thing I can think of.

Sorry, but I don't agree with this example at all. Re-use does not equal theft, unless you literally stole the walking stick to begin with. Ask any honest artist (in any medium) and they will tell you that they "borrowed" all sorts of ideas, techniques, etc. from their influences. One of my...

    Is this pitting?

Thanks for the replies, fellas. FWIW, some sanding did remove it.

Anything I can do to remove or smooth it?

    Is this pitting?

OK, so last night I acquired a keg that someone had already (but none to skillfully) cut a mouth hole into, but allegedly never brewed in. I thought this would save me the trouble, but it didn't occur to me until after I bought it that this meant the inside had been exposed to the elements in...

This was going to be my point. I'm a sometime designer and author as well, so I can certainly appreciate intellectual property, but if we're talking about personal, non-profit use I'm not sure it's that big of an issue, is it? If a commercial brewery was ripping off somebody's design that would...

10 gallon SS commercial vs. keggle. Please help me decide

Thanks for the feedback. I was actually talking about the fact that the mouth on this particular keggle looked wider than how most are cut, based on the pics I've seen around here.

10 gallon SS commercial vs. keggle. Please help me decide

Well, when you put it like that... :D Just making sure the wide mouth on this guy won't present any kind of problem, I guess, and also trying to cover my bases in case I didn't search enough :o

10 gallon SS commercial vs. keggle. Please help me decide

OK, so I was all set to buy a 10 gallon SS kettle from my LHBS when they sold out of them. While I'm waiting for a re-stock, I noticed somebody selling a keggle locally. Now, I know all the ins and outs of the ethics involved, but this particular keggle already has its main hole cut out so it's...

Breweries in DE, MD, or VA

Not sure when/where you're hitting the coast but if you're doing 95 to 64, Blue and Gray is Fredericksburg and Legend is in Richmond.

    Score! Bells Hopslam Ale

Thanks, but it looks like I was a day late and a dollar short. Unless he was giving me the runaround, the guy I spoke to on the phone said they had sold out. :(

Which local shop might that be? (Not that I'm planning to beat you to it :D)

    I blame you guys

Started brewing in October. At that point I probably couldn't name two varieties of hops. Now my freezer is chock full of 9 different kinds and I spend all my free time thinking about how to manage my pipeline. It's your fault, I tell ya :p

    Other hobbies?

We have a Royal Futura portable in fantastic shape, with case and original manual, but I don't think I'm willing to just "donate" it. Do you buy them or just "accept" them? It looks like this one.

Woodworking, building computers, anything A/V. I also retrofit early Philco radio shells with computer parts, new speakers, and amps. Here's one recent example.

Vacuum sealer on woot today (1/6/11) for 24.99

For anyone who missed that Foodsaver deal, there's a vacuum sealer on Woot.com today for 24.99. No idea how reliable that brand is, but it should come in handy if you buy hops in bulk.
