No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

I get it.. I was/am in no way offended, just continuing to look for input. I like the idea of unique brews not a clone of another beer (if that is what you are thinking). Anyway this seems to be more effort then it is worth..

    Anyone try BRY-97 yet

OK so now the krausen has reached the neck of the Better Bottle 6gallon Carboy. Just put a blowoff tube on and looking forward to see the progress tomorrow morning.

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

This is exactly why I thought a contest would be a fun way to get some new ideas without brewing 5 different IPAs at the same time. Just saying it could be a cool way to get some more ideas.

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

Never suggested it was a big deal, just looking for some new idea's. Why a contest?? Why not??

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

So far I don't think that we have come up with a clear outline to a contest yet, but I would like the basis to be an America IPA, without the C-hops, Amarillo, & Simcoe.. I am certainly open to add more hops to a "restricted list", but once we remove all the hops we seem to run out of a contest...

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

Just trying to get some thoughts flowing besides the obvious comments of no hops, no malt, no yeast which we have already seen in the thread.. For me this is an extension of our hobby that I was hoping some folks would take a little more seriously. I have made many great IPAs and consumed...

    Anyone try BRY-97 yet

UPDATE There is a growing krausen (about an inch or so) and fermentation has definitely started.. The temp is sitting at about 64* now and we are waiting for the massive raging fermentation others have described..

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

Grains & Yeast will not be excluded.. Here is what I am thinking so far.. Now we are up to Amarillo, Cascade, Centenial, Citra, Motueka, Nelson and Simcoe And Style is as follows:: 14B. American IPA Aroma: A prominent to intense hop aroma with a citrusy, floral, perfume-like, resinous, piney...

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

Centenial it is.. Now we are up to Amarillo, Cascade, Centenial, Citra, and Simcoe.. Anything else we should include??

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

Let's include it.. Amarillo, Simcoe, Citra, Cascade.. Anything else?? I like the idea of changing up the thoughts and getting rid of the safe idea's for 5 gallons of IPA..

No Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe IPA Contest Anyone

I have had numerous IPAs with the 3 majors hops and would like to see if anyone else would like to see about doing an IPA contest to make an IPA without Amarillo, Cascade, & Simcoe. Just thinking it is a good chance for some of us (like myself) to branch out and try some new hops and...

    Anyone try BRY-97 yet

Yeah it appears to be a slow starter at lower temps based on what I am seeing.. I have put the BB.Carboy in a water bath (water up to the lowest ring on the bottle) that is about 68* and raised the temp in room to about 70* and things have started to move slowly toward the better side of...

    Anyone try BRY-97 yet

got it.. Sounds like it is very picky.. I am along for the ride as I want to see how this progresses.. I would love to find an ale yeast that is very flocculant and has a good temp range.

    Flaked Rye Steeping Question

I wanted to get a hint rye in a Honey Pils (5# Pils DME & 1#Honey) and steeped some flaked rye I had sitting around for about 20 mins. Do you think this would add any flavor (not sugars) to an extract recipe?

Once you AG, do you extract?

I hate to join the thread late, but justed started a the same/similar post.. I brew extract only for 2+yrs, but it takes about 4-6hrs/day to get through everything. When I did extract I was 2hrs max for the day. I am going to throw in an extract about every other brew just to save time and...

All Grain Brewer Still Doing Extract Batches??

I have been brewing AG brew for about 2+yrs now, but I have been thinking of doing some extract brews (not Partial Mash) every few brews to cut out time in the brew day. Any other AG brewer doing this?? PS.. Doing it to shorten the day to spend time with the family as everyone is getting...
