    What to know before kegging

The con for me is that it makes me want to brew significantly more frequently - and in reality that a "pro" to me and just a "con" to my wallet. I have 5 more kegs coming, and I suspect between my brother, a friend of ours, and myself we'll have 'em full in a few months. We opted for full size...

    ball lock vs. pin lock

I prefer ball lock, but only because my 4-keg kit came with ball lock kegs and fittings. Eventually, however, I'll probably get connections for pin lock, because around here they seem to come up on Craigslist far more frequently and they're also cheaper at a few shops around here.

New to Kegging set up. HELP!

I thought I was taking that advice by going for the 4-keg kit with the distributor and 5lb CO2 tank. That was two weeks ago. I just ordered 5 more kegs (and am almost regretting not purchasing more), and have looked on craigslist for at least another 5lb CO2 tank (but a 10 or 20 would be nice...

    cloning beers

I think for me, the desire to clone an existing beer is to enjoy the beer, but in a different way. I haven't gotten to the point where I deviate from recipes much, if at all, yet, but eventually I will and it will be nice to have a baseline to know how the changes affect the final product...

    Questions about kegging

If you have the room, it is this relatively beginner brewer's advice to do it. You won't regret it. My brother and I picked up a fridge on craigslist for $25 and while its not something I'd like to have in my kitchen, in the basement next to the bar, it seems like it belongs there. The best...

    Choosing a refractometer

Also, just out of curiosity, but how are these calibrated? We use a refractometer for our marine aquariums, and have two calibration fluids (one at 1.000 and one at 1.030 I believe, because supposedly there's some inaccuracies using just the 1.000). Works great for us, but I think it tops out...

    Box of beer magnets?

I've seen these in person at Red Salamander. Did you ever see those sheets of magnets with words on them designed to create "clever" sentences? The office I used to work in used them and we made up some crazy stuff. These are the same - printed on magnetic sheets. You could probably wind up...

    Getting into kegging

I received my quad-Brew Logic from Midwest last Saturday. Very nice setup for the $$$, and while I'm not 100% happy with the dial on the regulator, it just took some time to dial it in to where I want it. I toyed with the idea of buying that exact setup for a while, but wanted more (as...

    New beer fridge in progress

akthor, thanks for the heads up on beveragefactory.com on Ebay. They have 2-packs for about $52 shipped, so I could do my 4-tap setup for just over $100. That'd be perfect, and even if the faucets are junk, the cost isnt much more than the shank and tail piece at the home brew shops around...

    New beer fridge in progress

If I found a good way to mount the CO2 tank in the door, I could definitely fit 6 corny kegs in there. 30 gallons of homebrew is definitely superiod to 20, however at this point I think I'm sticking with 20 only so I can still have some shelves to the right of the kegs for non-homebrew beer...

    New beer fridge in progress

Here's a mockup photo I took moments after receiving the kit this past saturday: That's roughly how things will wind up, but I need to get some material to build shelves. As of now, we only have one keg in there with beer because the glass over the drawers flexes too much otherwise...

What should a Noob do with $50 at LHBS?

I wound up making my own immersion chiller, and if I recall correctly with the fittings and all it wound up right around $40-50 (I think, it was a few years back). Obviously you can't use the gift card at a home improvement store. Things I've seen myself buying recently - more fermenters, more...

    Infection of Vanilla Porter

Thanks for the advice. I'm still bummed about "ruining" the porter, especially since I was looking more and more forward to it, however, after having my brother and a few of his friends try it they agree on two things. 1, its not porter and 2, its still drinkable. The slightly sour flavor...

    Infection of Vanilla Porter

I'm going to try NOT making this like every other infection thread I've read, because it seems to get asked quite often. Long story short: Brewed October 23th and it sat in primary for 3 weeks. About a week before secondary, I sliced and scraped the vanilla beans and soaked them in 80 proof...

    New beer fridge in progress

The kit from Midwest supplies are out for delivery as of 24 minutes ago :) Unfortunately, my first beer in the keg might be ruined/sour. Sometime between Thursdays evening look at the beer and Friday's "after work" look at the beer, it developed a white film on it, and the sweet vanilla...

    Using a Turkey Fryer

I've only brewed a few batches over several years, but after I got my turkey fryer, things definitely changes for the better (for me). I currently use the kettle that came with the fryer, though one of them developed a few small holes in the bottom because I (stupidly) left the remnants of...

    New beer fridge in progress

I've been a member here for a while, but mostly a lurker largely due to the facet that college, graduation, and work had gotten in the way of me brewing. Before recent history, I'd only brewed two batches of beer over the course of 4 years. Recently, a buddy of mine and I dug out my carboys...
