    Thermometer question

This is actually a digital one that has a probe on the end of a wire that you can submerse and the display is kept dry. The only thing I need to figure out is how to get the wire out of the fermenter and keep it air tight.

    Thermometer question

Has anyone used an aquarium thermometer in their primary? I got one one off of amazon after my digital probe thermometer stopped working. I figured since it is submersible it should work fine. It is good down to 14 fahrenheit and I can use another thermometer up to 250.

    Hydro reading issue

Hey all, question on getting a hydro reading. I am just doing a 1 gallon batch to try to dial everything. However, the hydro is taller than the gallon jug is, any advice on trying to get a FG? This cider started at 1.060 and after 10 hours I have a layer of crud on the bottom and a layer on...

    Oh darn it

Got it, I am using a plastic primary, if that makes a difference. I really don't plan on doing much to it for a while anyways.

    Oh darn it

I get that, one question though, since I am still new, how do I know when the beer is clear. When took my reading today there were a few bubbles on the surface with the a little bit of the hops floating around, but the liquid itself was clear. Are you refering to everything being settled?

Mine did not come with a seperate package of priming sugar, I have some however and was planning on using the amount in the directions. ETA: How much sugar was in the priming pack. My pack came with 1 lb of corn sugar that the directions indicated was to be added along with the DME and LME

    Oh darn it

Pappers, I did a hydro reading today and it came out at 1.011 (started at 1.030 as I topped off with water to get 5 gallons). I was thinking of waiting until Sunday and doing another reading and then waiting a few more days until I start checking daily to make sure fermentation is done. How...

    Hops question

Thanks guys, I will try to get over there and take a picture. I am going to do a search on drying and such, but if you could point me to a good thread or the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks

    Hops question

I have a friend who has a decent size row of hops plants that the previous owners of their house planted. What is the best way to find out what kind of hops they are? Oh, and when is the best time to harvest?

    Oh darn it

It is right at 68 now after being out of the swamp cooler, I am going to have to work on the ice additions because the room it is in is running around 72 right now and will go up a little in the next couple of days because of the weather, even though that is the coolest room in the house. I had...

I am definitely learning that and realize that I should have just left it alone.

    Oh darn it

It has been in since about 11:00 central time on Saturday. I took it out of the ice bath and it is at 68 right now. I have not swirled it at this point.

    Oh darn it

Ok, so I kept reading on the site ( I have posted this elsewhere but need some advice), I kept reading that it was better to keep the fermenter cool so as not to get off flavors. My yeast temp was recommended at 65-73 and I was running around 70-71. I put it in a swamp cooler and brought it...

    Wish Me Luck

Ok, so I did something stupid and did more reading on the site:). I kept reading to keep the fermenter cool, keep it cool, keep it coolish. I was running at about 70-72 and my yeast recommended temp was 65-74. I kept reading that the lower end was better, so I thought I would try to cool it...

    Ale Fermentation Temps

Ok, so if I posted that question after already doing said action, what next, do I just let it warm up a little and hope for the best, the bubbling is definitely down to next to nothing in the airlock. Can the yeast come back it I didn't go below the recommended temp?
