    Reusing dry hopped yeast

It's true. We have a great Homebrew store Brewchatter. They have a big turn around on a lot of products. So, they run out of things and replenish often. I've used this yeast countless times and this is the first time they were out of it. But, I did find it at another store I thought had closed...

    Annoying sanitizer foam

I use two 5 gallon buckets. One is filled with PBW where I scrub with bottle brush, then the other filled with StarSan. I've learned how to fill up and pour out the StarSan from the bottles. If you just dunk it in the bucket, it will cause it foam as it "glug glugs". Instead I fill so it flows...

3rd All Grain Batch Fail - Missed OG by 20 points on Orange APA

The biggest things that helped my efficiency was building a water profile with Brunwater, which it looks like you did. I also use distilled. Recirculating my mash throughout and to me most important is to stir every 15 minutes thoroughly. I think even with my HERMS, there was different temps...

    Flat Beer ?!?!?!

Might want to also get a bench capper. I had all sorts of issues with different types of bottles with the red one you have. Bench capper solved this for me.

    Reusing dry hopped yeast

That's great. Yeah, it will be an IPA with different hops, but should be ok. The yeast is WLP001 California Ale. I like the idea of collecting it until needed. I'll boil a couple mason jars along with a stainless spoon to be sure fully sanitized and collect as suggested. I'll be brewing the...

    Reusing dry hopped yeast

Hello all. I want to be able to reuse yeast that is currently making a Blond ale which was just dry hopped with 1 1/2 oz of Mosaic. Actually had 1 oz dry hopped of Mosaic 4 days ago in a hop sock, then removed and then another 1 1/2 oz were added free. No hop sock. I've only ever added a RIS...

I'm interested in how you do this. Vacuum seal in a mason jar?

Failed BrewersBest Kit? What'd I do wrong?

Different yeasts will behave differently. Even the same yeast will behave differently in different wort or other circumstances. And, you can not go off of air lock activity. I'm not too familiar with using dry yeast, but sometimes, my beers will finish in just a couple of days and other times...

    What am I doing wrong?

If you're confident in your mash temps, then I'd say it almost has to be fermentation. Mashing at a higher temp will result in a higher FG. Longer chain sugars that aren't broken down by the yeast. Are you hitting your OG?

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a big 10-11% RIS. Plan on putting right onto yeast cake of current 5% Pale Ale. Never tried this before, but am excited to.

Need advice - imperial stout - yeast

Need some advise. I’m brewing a 10-11% ris this weekend. Wanted to try out the darkness yeast from imperial yeast. That was always the plan. But... I have a 6% APA in my fermenter now which used white labs wlp001. Hasn’t been dry hopped yet. I’ve heard of people pouring new wort right onto...

    Bottling Bucket Fermentation

I'd keep it covered with foil or something during fermentation. Then spray starsan thoroughly on and inside it prior to dispensing.

Cancer & Beer 2019 - A new to brew perspectecive

While I completely agree with Rph Guy regarding the HERMS being complex for a beginner, I must say building mine was some darn good fun and using it brings out pride. It was difficult as when I started to build, I had no idea where to start, mainly with the PID temp control. But, I figured it...

Do NOT do this to your SS aeration stone

Man that sucks. I can't believe they would tell you to soak it in strait bleach. I've always kept mine is a small container filled with vodka. I dip it in starsan and run it for a sec before and after I put it into the fermentor. No issues thus far. Sorry, I don't have any knowledge of aquarium...

Musings on improving my RIMS bottom-drain mash tun setup

Something else I was just reading in another thread of a guy that puts a stainless steel mesh under the false bottom at the pick. This may help your flow since you had mentioned stuck mashes when stirring. I don't remember who stated this so sorry for no credit given to them. I plan to try this...

Musings on improving my RIMS bottom-drain mash tun setup

The biggest change for me in efficiency was stirring the mash. I never had and I had efficiencies all over the place. I use a HERMS so I always thought I was good since I am maintaining a perfect mash temp but there are hot/cold spots throughout the tun. I stir every 15 minutes to keep nice even...

What in the world is going on with my beer?

That's crazy. Well, now I know for when and if it happens to me. Thanks.
