    Question about the Johnson temp control

    I duct taped a piece of 4" x 12" x 1/2" foam to my fermentation bucket. Tape it on three sides and leave the top open. It acts as a holster for the probe to slip into. It keeps the probe pressed up against the vessel and insulates it from the air a bit.

    I used to dump it in my back yard hoping the raccoons and squirrels would eat it. They didn't and I ended up with a stinky pile of grains. I just throw it in a trash bag now.

    Nervous about fermentation and infection

    I understand, it is hard not to fiddle with the first batch. After my first (or third) I just let it sit for three weeks. The yeasts will do their work, you just mind the temperature. Don't worry about bubbles, I rarely see any bubbles (my buckets are in a freezer).
