    Simpsons vs Family Guy

I like the Simpsons because of the seeming timelessness of it. However, the Family Guy takes place in RI......most of the accents are spot-on, by the way.....especially Peter's wife.......

    carboys

I'm thinking "yes".....I use glass for secondaries, and haven't had any issues. My primary brew bucket, on the other hand, is slowly convincing me to buy a 6 gal. carboy for primary fermenting. I was hesitating on using soap on it, but maybe if I rinse it out really well.....

    Bare Knuckle Stout??

Anyone out here ever try to reproduce the hailed "Champagne of Beer" before? I hear they don't use hops.....

    Length of Blowoff hose?

I think the blowoff vessel is a huge factor too. I used a hastily setup blow-off system using the siphon tubing and an empty beer bottle I filled 1/4 w/ water. Yeah....didn't quite work. The guy at the HBS said it was most likely because I used a 12 oz. bottle to blow-off into. Not enough...

    Cheatin cider...

Sometimes it can take a full 2 weeks to get a good carbonation.....

    Music!

I think my taste in music is just as diverse as my taste in beer. Started out more into the whole Seattle grunge thing, since my alternatives were the dying hair bands, which for some strange reason seem to be resurfacing....ew. But that's another issue. With that as a foundation, I ended up...

    Magic Hat #9

I made a clone of this as my 3rd batch and first non-kit brew. Here's what I used, and I think in nailed it 100%......be aware, that you need to let the apricot flavor settle out for a week or 2 after bottling to really get a good taste out of it: 6 lbs. Extra Light Dry Extract .5 lbs...

    Secondary Fermentation

It's all of those things, I think. I get much clearer product after a week or 2 in the secondary. Like Janx said, though, it won't be crystal. No filters, afterall. I mean, none of my secondary brews had haze or particles floating around in them. Light could penetrate the glass it was...

    Bottle cleaning shortcut

I know someone already posted this on here somewhere, but to reinforce, using OxyClean to remove the labels is HUGE!!! Soak 'em in that and hot water overnight, and the labels melt right off....

    How long is too long?

Belgian Beer Drinker: Wow....it's not bad, but it's got this weird sorta...I don't know.....'off' flavor to it....you must have screwed up the recipe... Belgian Brewer: Um...yeah...no, that's um SUPPOSED to be like that...yeah....REAL old technique.....I'm not surprised you haven't heard of...

    Pellet Dry Hopping

How much more IBUs do you think you'd get out of dry hopping, as opposed to, say, just adding the hops into the last 15 minutes of the boil?

    Hops - Whole or Pellets

Get fake ones...they last longer. Seriously, whoever said a rose is the perfect symbol of love is completely sideways...they die after like a week....hmmmm...........

    chocolate in beer

I've read a lot about the cherry extract. A lot of folks have commented on it saying that it makes it taste like marchino cherries. Someone on this board posted a cherry wheat recipe using the cherry pie filling. That gave me the idea to use blueberry filling in my most current batch...

    Hops - Whole or Pellets

I think the amount of alpha acids you can get out of the different forms is the main difference. Check out this page, though...it has a great table that lays out the advantages and disadvantages of the 3 forms.... http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter5-2.html

    chocolate in beer

I did a chocolate raspberry stout, and added 8 oz. of unsweetend chocolate to the boil for the full 60 minutes. I think I may wait until the last 10 minutes or so next time, as the raspberry flavor overshadowed it. Also, the hops that were used were way too bitter to really bring out a...

    kegs

Easy to come by, but not easy to make room for when you rent an apartment...hehehe

'cept if you don't have room to keep your kegs constantly refrigerated...like myself.

    1st brew in the Keg

Is this the first time you've drank homebrew? It is definitely different than drinking normal beer...could be that you got too much yeast in the glass/bottle. It won't make you sick, but it'll cause bloating and gas. Just a thought....

    Free brew book

GREAT site.....I keep going back to it with pretty much every new batch I brew, and expecially after getting some great info out here too.....

    Swing Top Bottles

I've got a couple 64oz. growlers from a microbrew from CT that I plan to use for my Imperial Stout. I figure I'd keep brews in there that aren't typically highly carbonated. The only problem is that they're screw-caps. My girlfriend's father uses those for wine, but I can't imagine they'd be...
