    Plate Chiller Question

For those of you that are using a plate chiller, does the temps at the exit of the chiller come close to pitching temps ore do you recirculate the wort through your brew kettle until the temps stabilize to pitching temps then pump to your fermenter? Edit: I purchased a B3-36A 20 plate chiller...

New take on dimpling, silver solder bulkheads?

Ok, I want a set of these!! :onestar::onestar::onestar: Plese let us know when you plan to have them available. I just ordered new pots for my setup and I'd rather silver solder my fittings in than use the o-ring method. As said before, this looks like a very elegant solution.

    FastFerment conical

You will still need all of the equipment regardless if you are kegging or bottling. You still need a fermenter which is either a bucket or a conical (which is what the FastFerment is). Both the bucket and the fast ferment use an air lock, a drain, etc. so the only difference is the advantage...

    FastFerment conical

Contractor (we think) working on my house walked off with it. They were the only ones with the keys and there was no forced entry. Back door was open 3-4 inches when I got home and my fermenter along with a bunch of other stuff was taken. I'll probably weld up a mobile stand for my new ones...

    FastFerment conical

Well, since my original Fast Fermenter was stolen I never got to use it. I've been following this thread though to see what everyone has thought of theirs and decided it was still a good choice for small or double batches. So, I ordered two more the other night! I swear my beer is going to be...

Looking to Step up my system

I'm in the same process as the OP but lost all of my current brewing equipment in a house fire. I've spent the last 3 months researching everything I can to facilitate the move to all grain brewing. I wanted equipment that will keep me brewing for a while before I need or want to upgrade any...

    HERMS Mounted in Kettle Lid?

I'm convinced, was able to have JaDeD lengthen the input/output tubes before they shipped it. The slow process of figuring out what I want and ordering everything is progressing. thanks

    HERMS Mounted in Kettle Lid?

Gotpushrods, Thanks for the update, I may still look at building my system this way as I like the idea of being able to move the lids around. I'm building a 3-Tier HERMS system with only 2 burners and a Coleman cooler as a mash tun for now. I don't see the need to have a heated mash tun if...

    HERMS Mounted in Kettle Lid?

Thanks, I'll check him out. However, I did think of one reason not to do it this way. There would be no way to get all of the wort out of the coil pumping it vertically. I suppose if you have the traditional side mounted coil you could use the lower port as output to utilize gravity to get all...

    HERMS Mounted in Kettle Lid?

I'm in the planning stages of building my HERMS setup and ran across Bru-Gear's kettles with their HERMS unit mounted to the Lid: http://www.bru-gear.com/20-gallon-HERMS-kit_p_19.html This looks like a great idea for cleaning purposes alone. Can anyone give reasons why this wouldn't be a...

    15-gallon brew kettle advice

I'm in the same situation as the OP here except I'm looking at primarily brewing 10 gallon batches with occasional 5 gallon brews. Can you get away with a smaller HLT say 15 Gallons and use a 20 gallon brew kettle or would I be better off just getting 2-20's? Spike is out of their 20...

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

After our long wait to get these fermentor's, mine arrived shortly after I had a house fire so I have been unable to use it. I had it in the box stored in my house while the house was being restored, cam e home last Friday to check the mail and all the stuff I was storing in my house including...

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

Great product, can't wait to use it. One suggestion though, I threaded one of my temp probes into the thermowell and the only thing that I didn't like was that the probe was angled upwards toward the top of where the Wort would be (with the face of the probe angle down). Obviously this is due to...

    FastFerment DIY Ideas

I'll be welding a stand once house renovations are done. On another note; maybe we could make the stand and paint the fermenter to look like the space ship in the Men in Black movie :D Who knew space travel was possible in a conical fermenter!

    Harbor Freight pump for HERMS?

Thanks dmc, I figured it was a long shot and had planned to open one up to see what was inside. Probably not good for brewing but if not, I can always use it to pump out the bilge in my boat!

    Thinking of a stir plate...

Stir plates are easy to make if you have decent soldering skills and can read a schematic. Otherwise, $40 is cheap compared to what your labor is worth. I built mine but I like to do that kind of stuff. If you're not a DIYer then by all means, buy one. Like others have said, they increase your...

    Harbor Freight pump for HERMS?

While walking through Harbor Freight tools last night to pick up some tools I spotted THIS pump on the shelf for $34 ($27 with coupon). Yes it's dirt cheap but it does have a Stainless Steel pump housing, adaptable fittings, and produces about 3.4 GPM. I picked one up even though I'm a...

FAQ: Aluminum Pots for Boil Kettles?

I'm probably going to replace them as I really don't want to have those flavors in my beer. Not to mention that they got pretty hot by the fire then doused with that chemical foam the fire department used to put it out. Not sure if it's safe to use or not but I could boil something in it to find...

    FastFerment conical

Just use a round over bit in a router and you'll have the same thing in plywood that you'd have with their stand. Minehasn't shipped yet either but I did get an email yesterday stating that they were having fit issues with the lid so I would imagine that's what's holding up shipment.
