    How did it all start?

Haha My family never wanted to get me brewing stuff. So I would just ask for money. Fortunately I was able to trade that good old US currency for brewing equipment! I win...

    How did it all start?

CA originally but I escaped to NV. Which sadly seems to want to be more like CA these days... Already planning my next escape. I have one on my car too. I can't think of a better way to symbolize We the People. Step on us, and we will strike. Everyone seems to often forget that the People of...

    1 pack of S-189, enough?

All is well, there is now beer in the house! I know you were all really worried about me.... Haha!

    How did it all start?

Another thread got me thinking about why we decided to get into brewing our own beer. Specially considering all of the work/time/money that goes into it. For me, there was a few reasons. I have always been a fan of beer. Even when I was young, I enjoyed taking an occasional sip from my dad's...

    Yeast wisdom

Awesome! I love this hobby... My upstairs is a couple degrees warmer than the downstairs. Maybe I will move everything up there for a few days. Hopefully I don't disturb everything that has fallen out of suspension too much.

I had never done the temp raise on my other batches and they turned out great so I shouldn't worry about it. The problem is that I am a perfectionist and knowing that I can improve it a little by raising temps with no means to do so at the moment is maddening haha! Like I said, I am trying to...

    1 pack of S-189, enough?

I have been out of beer for well over a week... I can handle lock down no problem, but trying to handle lock down with no beer is the worst thing on the planet... I assure you. Haha!

Well she was super active this morning but slowed considerably throughout the day. Almost zero activity now. I can see the yeast layer on the bottom. It has built up quite a bit already. I was going to try to slowly raise temps as suggested earlier but I don't really have any way to do this...

    "Fixing" a beer post carbonation

I agree. I was thinking about boiling some brats. Always comes out great when boiling with beer. Even bad beer haha. That is what I did with my entire first batch since it come out pretty rough... Made bad beer but made awesome brats. Might be a good option! Probably not what you were looking...

Noob questions regarding a recipe kit

Since this is an extract kit, I will just tell you what I have been doing and getting good results with. Usually I bring about 3.5-4 gallon to temp to steep my grains. Then I add roughly half or so of my malt extract and stir until fully dissolved. Then I follow what the recipe calls for for my...

Noob questions regarding a recipe kit

Very well could have been what I was meant to take from my reading. Take US-05... Great all around yeast that produces awesome beer, but may be kind of a jack of all trades scenario. Where as liquid yeast options give you the ability to pick a very specific outcome due to the variety available...

First time in Stainless: few questions???

I like clear fermenters so I can see all of the action but I love the ease of use when it comes to the buckets. General consensus seems to be to take gravity reading a couple of days apart. If they are the same, she is done cooking. I will answer a question with a question mainly because I am...

Got some slurry from the fermenter to bottles. Problem?

If you pour a Sierra Nevada into a glass you will notice a small amount at the bottom of their bottles. Most big brewery’s usually filter their beer to help clear it up. No biggy. It’s all part of the natural process

Noob questions regarding a recipe kit

Hi and welcome! I am relatively new myself but let me see if I can help out a little. First are you doing all grain or an extract kit with steeping grains? My basic understanding is that a finer crush is meant to help with efficiency. The more sugars and flavors you can extract out of the...

    Room Ventilation/Safety

I learned this lesson 2 brews ago. Popped the lid, stuck my head in the bucket, and took a fast and deep inhale. I wont ever do that again! It was pretty rough. I knew there was co2 in there but that fact escaped me when all I wanted to do was smell my beer. It was definitely an "im an idiot"...
