Pressure Ferment / Closed CO2 Pressure Keg Transfer Questions / How to?

If you're pushing beer to a purged keg, whether it is multiple "burps" of CO2 from the tank on the headspace, or a liquid purge a-la starSan, there should be *very* minimal O2 in the headspace. The priming sugar will create your carbonation, yes. I am one day into cold crashing a...

    Welcome Beginning Brewers!

If the fermenter is in good shape, it should be fine for several batches. Longevity is what suffers with plastic fermenters, as each cleaning cycle can potentially introduce another scratch/crevice for a future bit of bacteria to get stuck in. Same applies for buckets as to plastic carboys.

    Welcome Beginning Brewers!

In my experience, wheat and dark ales are the easiest, most forgiving homebrew recipes, great to start out with! The grain bills are simple, as are the hops. Dry yeast can be used with great results. Northern English Brown ale is my favorite style. Fermentation can be done in the 60s...

How, and how often to clean mill?

if you are getting good results with what you have going now, why change? do you double-crush your home-malt? or just once thru? Efficiency these days? if it's already high enuf and you like the results, may be unnecessary hassle?

How, and how often to clean mill?

I have a cereal killer 2-roller. Each time I grind grist (2x as I MIAB) I get all kinds of flour stuck to the mill mount plate. Got a few 1-inch cheap-o paint brushes from Lowes/Menards/Home Depot (your choice) that I use to brush off all this dust into my bucket prior to mashing. I give the...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Did a BoPils last summer using the "traditional" method, 11C/52F for about 3 weeks while I was away for work, so super handy. It worked well. Doing my first BoPils now @ 12 PSI. First time using liquid yeast under pressure as well (Wyeast 2001). Three days to go from 1.040 to 1.008. ;)

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

My kiddos are the same way during the mash and boil. They are not fans. Hopefully you have a cool garage, it's where all us cool cats hang out anyway!

Most authentic lager yeast strain for Bohemian-type Pilsner

Trying out 2001 in a pressure fermentation right now for a BoPils @ 12 PSI. Three days to go from 1.040 to 1.008 with a free rise from 18C/64.4F to 21.1C/70F. Not too shabby!

    Overbuilding Imperial yeast starter

I am new to the process of starters. Just did my first "vitality" starter with my own "produce" as it were, albeit with a crash in between. Do you have a post which explains your ideas further? I am intrigued, as I should prolly have all of the hardware needed to give what you suggest a try...

    Overbuilding Imperial yeast starter

I ran with Homebrew Dad's overbuild calculator. My 2001 was from late February, so I considered it 55% viable for starter calculations. I ran with the basic specs: Pitch rate - 0.75million/ml Batch Volume - 5.55gal/21L OG - 1040 OG Overbuild - 105 billion Only a single step, 1.5L/164g DME...

    Anvil Foundry 6.5 threads,all things 6.5

Yes. My tips/tricks are irrelevant to a 10.5 model, the malt pipe alone will handle most grain+full-immersion combos for a Corny/19L/~5gal batch. Another I learned by accident: If for whatever reason you need to do a fermenter top-off to meet your volume, Brewfather (and likely most other...

    Anvil Foundry 6.5 threads,all things 6.5

Here are some Anvil 6.5 specific tips I have used: I do MIAB with a 5 gallon round cooler, can make any 19L batch up to 1.080 without top-off post-boil. If you make a smaller batch, barleywines are within your grasp! The cooler has very minimal hardware, and with my version of the AF 6.5...

Just cracked open my first home brew! Thank you guys for your advice, here's the results and what I'm working on next.

I too have used Brewer's Best kits when I was starting out. The ability to completely avoid dealing with a mash (aside from some steeping grains) and focus directly on the boil and subsequent fermentation/packaging was a good learning experience! Kettle sizes were more manageable with the 2...

Frankenbeers - love 'em or hate 'em?

Good timing on this thread as I am in the planning stages of my first Frankenbrew! After transferring my specialty grains to dollar-tree containers, I had a whole bunch of misc grains (10-11) from 120L to Torrified Wheat to Munich and all places in between, 100-200g each. I also purchased a...

No need to be sorry, a Russian Imperial Stout is a fantastic BRITISH style they created for the King's cousin, the Czarina Catherine the Great and her court. ;)

Best place to get a grain mill

Another for the cereal killer here. My MIAB gap is 0.25-0.27 ish, based on the spark plug feelers, and a (fairly thin) credit card. I double-crush anyways, and has worked well thus far.

    William's Brewing

Picked up about 50% of my duotight fittings and 8mm EVA barrier from Williams over the years. Prolly half of my SS ball valves as well. Once you get over $99, it's ostensibly free shipping, at least to Iowa. I never pushed the envelope, most I have done was 10lb Munich, 10lb Vienna malt to...

    Pressurized Fermentation- Target Yeast Temperatures?

NOTE: I dunno what qualifies as "resurrecting a dead thread", but this is pertinent to my post so figured why not add it here rather than re-hash it all again in a new post? If this is contrary to forum etiquette, please let me know. I am currently pressure fermenting a BoPils, about...
