Any word on how this turned out?

    New brewer from Michigan

Oh, wow. I haven't heard Osseo mentioned in over a decade. Hahaha. I graduated in 2005. If his stories are true, we very well might have had the same chemistry teacher. Very small world. :mug:

    ghetto brew setups?...

I'm really digging these setups. They're giving me some ideas to get my AG setup put together without having to sell a kidney. That's what I love about HBT. I can always count on it as a source of inspiration.

    A few newbie questions

I agree with what Hello said. The only things I can think of to add is that a longer primary fermentation (around 3 weeks, more if you feel like it) will usually help clear your beer just as well as a secondary or using finings. You could also consider cold crashing in your fridge, if you have...

    Beer taste slightly sour

If you have access to povidone-iodine, it should make a pretty decent sanitizer, and is much easier to work with than bleach. You should be able to find it fairly easily anywhere that you could find medical supplies. When I use it in the hospital to soak/clean wounds, I mix it with water until...

BrewNanny - What do you think?

Sounds to me like a $250 replacement for an airlock, pen, and notebook. I'm sure it probably does some cool tricks, but I just can't see it having anything that's really necessary for the average brewer. Could be a cool toy for those with the means to get one, though.

    New brewer from Michigan

I'll secondary every so often as well, since I only have one 6.5 gallon bucket for now. My secondaries are all 5 gallon. I used to primary in those as well, but with blowoff, I ended up with closer to 4-4.5 gallons in the end.

    newbie as of today

It should be fine. I've had meads that I've left in the primary for almost four months before I got around to racking them, and they turned out fine. I usually primary for about 2 months, or so.

    Beer to Stay Away From

Never been big on anything I've tried from Gordon Biersch. I've tried various beers beers from them bottled and on tap, and they just don't do it for me.

    New brewer from Michigan

Welcome to HBT. I'm also from Michigan, grew up in Hillsdale. Then the Navy brought me out to California. Some people like to dry hop in their primary, but I believe the majority will transfer to a secondary for that. I always dry hop in a secondary. An IPA is a great first beer...

    too much grain?

You could also try cold crashing or using geletain finings to clear it up, if it doesn't seem to be getting as clear as you'd like. I'd give it a couple weeks before doing that, though. Even then, cold crashing couldn't hurt, if you have the ability to do so.

    Blow off hose

I always use cheap vodka in my airlock. You should be fine using sanitizerl I've never noticed a smell in my blowoff tubes. I usually run hot water through them, then soak them in cleaner, and then rinse them again.

    Barrel Aging and air locks

I have a new barrel, and am wondering the same thing. I would assume that an airlock wouldn't hurt anything.

    Krausen in airlock?

I agree with the blowoff tube that the others suggested. Also, what size is your primary and what size batch are you doing? Getting a fermenter with a little bit more headspace for your primary might help out a little bit, as well.

English IPA brew session...could have gone worse...

Sounds like it could have been a mess. Glad it turned out okay.

    Ball lock kegs

Adventures in Homebrewing has some fairly decently priced ones. http://www.homebrewing.org/Home-Brew-Kegs_c_223.html

    Too soon

If it's still bubbling up into the airlock, you could try a blowoff tube. It might help prevent the airlock from clogging. You should be fine in a day or two though, I'm guessing.
