    BIAB Recipe Formulation

Hi - I have been mystified by this for some time and thought this forum could shed a light on the approach to be taken. I like the fact that the AHA publish the recipes for the NHC award winners and I have made several of these brews. Similarly I read through Zymurgy or BYO, Craft Beer &...

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

Hi - I am new to this thread but currently use a ‘Legacy’ BrewPi (RPi + Arduino) solution for my fermentation temperature control. I am looking to build a new chamber and see that there is this ESP8266 hosted solution. I love what I am reading here but like all long threads in Forums, it is...

    Element On detection

The main on/off is in the bottom right as shown in the picture. This picture (from the Blichmann site) also shows the red ‘Heat’ icon which shows when the element is firing. Or rather when the control electronics is telling the SSR to turn the element on. The concern I have is that it is not as...

    Element On detection

@doug293cz That was my point exactly. It has a lot of very nice features and a good user-friendly interface. However it lacks a couple of features which I would like to add in a power control box: 1) Power connector adaptor from the 14-60 wall outlet to the 14-30 that the Brew Commander uses...

    Element On detection

Yes the Brew Commander does have an off switch and an icon on the small screen indicating the Element is ‘On’. I am unaware however if that switch just ***** off the control logic and whether in the case of an SSR failure, the small switch would shut off the pumps and element outputs. Paul

    Element On detection

The main power off switch is two rooms away from the outlet. Hence the feeling I needed an E-Stop rather than grabbing a big NEMA 240V 60 Amp switch and yanking it out of the wall - possibly with wet hands if something has gone wrong. Yes it’s GFCI protected but that is a last resort and should...

    Element On detection

I fully agree. I didn’t however want to ‘break into’ the Brew Commander box or the element connector to run the wires to a lamp. It’s another set of wires to clutter the brew-table and being 240V - albeit at negligible current - the wire will be thick. A separate circuit inline from the outlet...

    Element On detection

Hi - I am putting together a 240V system with a 5500W element. I have a 240V/60A outlet and intend to add a control box between that and a socket for a Brew Commander to control the brew, pumps etc. I know that the Brew Commander has an ‘Element On’ in the screen but I like the idea of a large...

    New eBIAB Setup

How do you find the Northern Brewer SS Counterflow chiller? What are your chill times? Paul

    New eBIAB Setup

I love the set-up here and the choice of the Spike 20 Gallon with the Brew Commander, Riptide, SS Counterflow and QD's. I am considering an almost identical setup. One question I have though is your choice to use a grain basket rather than a bag. From what I have heard from @Bobby_M & others...

    DIY glycol inquiry

Thanks. As I suspected and I don’t want to put time, energy and money into a marginal system. I am not in Texas with a fermenter in 100+ temperatures - fermentation will be in an air conditioned finished space and I’d like to size a system that will cool and crash a couple of 6 gallon conicals...

    DIY glycol inquiry

I’m looking into building my own glycol chiller to cool 2-3 5 or 10 gallon conical fermenters to different temperatures and following this thread for ideas. Has anyone had success using a stainless coil in a small fridge or freezer to chill the glycol rather than the ‘normal’ DIY ac unit...

    Vienna Lager Fermentation Profile

It has taken me 50 batches of beer to finally venture to a lager yeast fermentation. I made a Vienna Lager and am using WLP830 German Lager yeast. I made up a starter on a stir plate and double pitched the WLP830 per the guidelines and it is chilling down to pitching temperature now. Based on...

Win a Spike Brewing CF5 Conical Unitank!

Wow - Love the Spike equipment and am looking at buying a 3 vessel electric system. This would make a great addition verses the five gallon plastic fermenters I am currently using! Paul

    Building an Electric Brewery

Thanks for your inputs. While I am technically savvy and have built a Raspberry Pi+Arduino BrewPi system, as well as remote temperature monitors, I think that for brewing, given all the things that can go wrong in these complex systems on Brewday, power glitches, moisture spills etc, I am...

    Building an Electric Brewery

I am in the initial stages of planning an electric three vessel 15 gallon electric brewery and I have done a lot of reading and video watching online. In looking at the different solutions, there appears to be three different approaches: 1) Proprietary solutions like the Blichmann 'Tower of...

Nice setup. Can you tell me more about the brew control system you used? It that a touchscreen for control or is it just for monitoring? Paul

    Bru'n water newbie questions

Thanks. This is an all grain recipe entered into BeerSmith and it uses a two stage batch sparge so the water is split into two quantities. Got it on the water pH. Paul

    Bru'n water grain bill

Thanks. Is there a 'Look-up' for all the different grains and what they should be classed as in Bru'n Water? I can make those changes recommended here for this recipe but with the next brew there will be a different set of grains and I don't want to rely on all the good people here in this...
