    How long on stir plate?

I've thought about the Group Buy on occasion, but I think I still brew less than fifty gallons a year. Combine that with not knowing what I want to do next and I don't think the group buy makes sense for me.

    How long on stir plate?

The key point is that there was a ton of yeast from the batch six weeks ago. If it is alive, I have more than enough, based on my highly scientific sight test. I guess this is more of a vitality starter, or just my way of convincing myself that the prior batch did not die on me in the fridge...

    How long on stir plate?

Is it OK to leave a starter on a stir plate for almost three days? I have to leave town for a while, and want to brew about a day after I get back. I've just made a 1L starter with Propper Starter and a fair amount of Hansens Ale Yeast that I took from a two step starter about six weeks ago...

Feedback on Blood Orange Milkshake Recipe?

Can I get the thoughts and suggestions of the assembled brain trust on this recipe? I plan to brew on Sunday. Mash at 155F 7 lbs Pilsner Malt (Avangard) (1.7 SRM)51.9% 2 lbs Oats, Malted (Thomas Fawcett) (2.0 SRM) 14.8% 1 lbs Oats, Flaked (1.0 SRM) 7.4% 1 lbs Wheat, Torrified (1.7 SRM) 7.4%...

    Blood Orange Milkshake

A milkshake is a NEIPA plus lactose. A vanilla bean is a very common addition to same, but not mandatory. I've had a few very good Blood Orange IPAs in the days before the haze craze, but have seen little of them since.

    Spunding question

That looks convincing. Plan A will be to swap the PRV from another lid and then re-pressurize. If that does not work I get to find out whether the gunk glued the lid to the keg.

    Spunding question

Dumb question based on never before removing one: Will anything fall off in my beer if I unscrew the PRV from the top?

    Spunding question

Can we revisit my September problem? Please recall that I filled a 3 gallon keg to the top and got all sorts of leakage, then used a picnic tap to drain a quart or more and finished spunding. I was unable to get the temp as low as I wanted before serving it at a family event. Thanks to the...

Help me make a Sippy Cup IPA

My first thought was that you were just joking, but the more I thought about it, the less I found wrong with the ideas. Simple fruit purees have to work in a milk shake, and oatmeal is at home in any NEIPA grain bill. Extra vitamins seem unlikely to hurt anything, considering how loose the...

Need advice on new mini fridge

The one I have right now is exactly the same height as a chest freezer and is plenty big for my 3 gallon and I suspect big enough for 5 gallon

Need advice on new mini fridge

I recently got an old mini fridge for free and kitted it out as a kegerator, but it is already dieing. I need a replacement. Which currently available new mini fridge is best? I'd like: 1 to be able to drill through the middle of the top; 2 not to need to remove or displace a freezer; and 3...

Help me make a Sippy Cup IPA

OK, I've not bought baby food for over thirty years, but now I am reminded that baby oatmeal is a wet food. If my recipe would normally call for 1 pound of dry oatmeal, how much wet oatmeal do I put in its place? At least Gerber's so-called single grain oatmeal does not seem to contain...

Help me make a Sippy Cup IPA

OK, while I know a little about NEIPAs, having made one or two, I know nothing about milkshakes. Where is a good place to learn about same? Are they normally made with pureed fruits, or will I need to work out substitution formulas along with everything else? Somehow, I don't think BeerSmith...

Help me make a Sippy Cup IPA

Goofy question time. I want to call my next brew Sippy Cup IPA. As the name suggests, it needs to be juicy. I have just received a bunch of Galaxy and Strata. Neither has to be part of the recipe, but it would help. If you were going to call your beer Sippy Cup IPA, what would you put in...

Where to put the CO2 tank?

Does it matter if the CO2 tank is inside the kegerator or outside? I read somewhere that a cold tank won't last as long as one at room temp. Is this true?
