Setting grain mill gap with credit card

When my buddy first got his new grain mill(five years ago), he used his CC to get the initial setting, then adjusted from there once he found his feeler gauges. The biggest thing is getting it set evenly and doing a test run.

Wyeast 2633 O Fest Blend Question

Hey all! Took the plunge on my first lager Sunday morning with a Baltic Porter. Per my brewing software estimated OG was 1.077(I hit that number dead nuts on). I prepared a week before a multi-step starter of Wyeast 2633 to achieve a hefty roughly 800 billion cells for a solid pitch. It is an...

    Manual Sparge/Vorlauf diffuser ideas?

I use this: It works great for transferring from the kettle into the fermenter to aerate the wort. I can't imagine it wouldn't work swimmingly for sparging and recirculating wort.

    Clean Bottles

I am in the same boat with @D.B.Moody I rinse well after pouring my brew and then store them upside down in it's box until bottling day, then they all go into the dishwasher. It hasn't failed me yet *knocks on wood* Since you've had a partial infection, you'll want to rework your bottling...

BJCP , is it worth it?

I am not a judge, yet. The yet is for when I eventually retire from the Army(have a lot of knowledge for my job and can't afford to brain dump for room for beer yet. From my understanding from talking with a few, it is a lot of fun and excellent way to increase your overall knowledge of beer...

    Making a Kornøl

Excellent work stirring it up. I leave the forums for a weekend of brewing and tending to mead and come back to a thoroughly entertaining thread. I do appreciate your input McMullan, you do have a good idea of what you are talking about and it shows. It's fantastic to have Svein drop his...

    Switching to corks

Meh. Keep it how it is. Next bottling rotation move to corks. The screw tops will keep long enough to be enjoyed.

    Making a Kornøl

I've always been interested in the old ways of brewing and this one definitely strikes a chord.

    Non food grade bucket use

If you're just planning on using it as a dunk bucket for cleaning up on brew day and dumping it out, I see no problem, anything over a couple days of storage in said bucket might be a problem. I use the orange Home Depot 5 gallon buckets and lid for brining my turkeys during the holidays for...

    Making a Kornøl

Yes, its a raw ale. Quite good. It traditionally isn't hopped(in most cases) and uses juniper and meadowsweet to create the aromatics and bitterness.

    Storing bottles with sanitizer inside?

If you rinse out your bottles really well after pouring your beer, that saves so much of your work. I do said step, then take the bottles and upend them in the case that they came from, thus keeping dirt/crud out of the inside of the bottle. Then the morning of bottling day, I load the...
