So my second batch will be a stout. Got some safale-04 to replace the coopers yeast (it's a copper can). I'd like to add some oatmeal to it. How do I go around doing this? I also bought some dark malt extract for use instead of sugar. I'm thinking 1 lb of oatmeal?? I'm brand spanking new so...
Thanks for alleviating my fears! What do you all recommend for a priming sugar. Being new I have no clue about this part, other than its purpose. Do different primers impart different favors etc?
So about 5 days ago I made my first batch. Brew house Red Ale. Followed instructions etc. so as I've got anoth two ish weeks in the primary I thought I'd double check how much priming sugar to add. To my chagrin, I realized that when it called for the contents of package 1 to be added to the...
Looking at getting into wine making, and I'm surprised that there's no sticky on a how to for beginners!!! There's one for beer, mead etc. I'm having search issues as I'm browsing on my phone. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
Ikmactually not sure how big the pail is. Just followed the instructions on adding water etc on the brew house red ale instructions. Was about a 1.5-2" amount of room left. First batch ever, and learned a lot already!!
Thanks to all so far for the kind helping hand! I'm sure there's tons of the...
Did my first batch last night, started bubbling a few hours later. Unfortunately this morning before I left for work the fermentor bubbled over!! Do I just have the wife ;) clean it up and resanatize or should I have her remove some wort to make room?
Awesome info. This really helps! I'm just going to do kits for a while then kick it up a notch. I have a red ale LME for batch. Number one. Wife let me buy it today, then told me I can't make it Gil we get back from a trip we r going on. We don't leave Gil next week
My understanding of doing gravity readings is mostly for figuring ABV. Am I correct in this?? Should I bother?
How the heck do I do this??? Help is definitely appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Now I have a Q or 2. When it says to add cold water in the primary to the cooled wort, does that mean I boil it first then cool it? Or just add cold water?
Is the point of doing a secondary to remove/filter some of the particulate. Just seems to me that you can ( if materials are available to you) to just leave what you have in the primary and leave it longer and do a different batch in another one. Or are the clearing properties worth doing a...
