(More) Don't do this with your glass carboy!

Congrats! :mug: I took a 3 year break from brewing after having children, and it's difficult to balance time. If you find yourself falling out of it, try to at least do an extract batch every now and then to keep yourself sane :)

    Minibrew 15 Gallon Conical

I was hoping the lack of glass weight would make moving a 10 gal. fermenter doable. Maybe I could just pipe it from my garage down into my basement :mug:

    See my Wort Chiller

I'm at about 10 minutes with 25' of 1/4 inch in 5.5 gal -- is it safe to say I'm looking at 20 min. for 11 gal? With the price of copper, I'd like to not have to upgrade, and I think 20 min would be OK - I will probably just stir more, as I've noticed that stirring makes a big difference.

    Minibrew 15 Gallon Conical

Can this be moved with 10 gal. of brew in it? I brew in the garage, and would want to ferment in my basement. Looks great either way-

    10g extract batch?

beersmith is software that helps calculate every aspect of your batch, from how much water to use in-boil to how much hops and malt to use to reach your target, etc. It will also store all your recipes and brew data. It's free for 21 days, and after that, I think it's $20.

    10g extract batch?

After reading more and more on here, doing a batch sparge looks like it'll only take me an hour longer.....HMMMMMMM!!!!....... Yes, beersmith is great, and at $20, it's a must-have :)

How much did you pay for welding your keggle?

Yeah, I used 80/20 mix and .023 wire to weld mine in. Looks fine. Cost was about $700 until I bought the gas bottle, auto-dark helmet and wire.

    10g extract batch?

For me it's just the time factor. I know AG is better and less expensive to make, but I have way too many irons in the fire to go that route. My 5 gal brew sessions from start to pitching yeast have been about 3 hrs including clean-up. I usually start around 9pm and finish up around...

    10g extract batch?

I plan on going to 10 gal for my next batch. I will do a full boil in my keggle, and probably do late extract addition. I'm considering pre-dissolving DME in another pot on a different burner while the grains are steeping to save some time, and make the 14lb DME addition a little less...

    New here from Etown, PA

Great info - I've used DME in the past, but what I wanted to know more about was "Ex light. Allows you to make any color beer and is very handy just measuring what need need to brew." Let's say I'm doing a brown ale, and I'm supposed to use 6 lbs of Amber: How do you substitute Ex. Light DME...

Oh yeah -- next batch is the midwest supply Double IPA, and after that, a 10 gallon batch of HopBack IPA (from BYO recipe) - I love that beer!! Hopefully I can make something that resembles it.

    New here from Etown, PA

I'm using liquid extract from Midwest Supply -- First batch was Octane IPA. It was supposed to have 6 lbs amber liquid extract, but it also came with an additional 3.3 lbs of Amber that I threw in before realizing they sent too much!! Probably why it's been fermenting for 2 weeks. I'll do...

Yep, google search "homebrewing forums" Figured the first result is usually the best!

    New here from Etown, PA

I just started brewing after a 3 year hiatus. New house, children, working on the new house and everything that goes along with it put brewing way far back on the burner. When I stopped, I was brewing AG in a converted igloo cooler all in my basement, it was getting pretty good, but what a...

Is there a good way to imitate a hop back?

    Ok, great- thanks again, everyone!

Is there a good way to imitate a hop back?

I'm not sure of this, but I think the idea of the hop back requires you pump the hot wort through the hop back as you are bringing it down to pitching temps. I use an immersion chiller, so mine wouldn't go through the hop back until it was at pitching temps on it's way into the fermenter...

Is there a good way to imitate a hop back?

I have a recipie that calls for using a hop back for everything except the bittering hops. Is there a good method to imitate this process without actually using a hop back? I was thinking of turning of burner, and throwing in a nylon bag of the hops, and stirring while the immersion chiller...

    How Long Are You Aerating?

I rigged up a 6" spout straight down from my keggle and drilled a whole bunch of tiny holes in the spout. Kinda looks like water coming out of the kitchen faucet when it's pouring into the fermenter.
