    Any good beer in London/Oxford?

The best guide to UK pubs is the latest Good Beer Guide http://www.camra.org.uk/page.aspx?o=192602 It's been a while since I've lived in London but if no one else can help I can see what I can suggest....

    Roeselare question

Kicked my own first Flemish Red off last weekend using a 2l starter of Roeselare to kick start fermentation. It was still a little slow to get really going but is now bubbling away happily.

Trying to advance a bit and need some explanation

Not quite, you have water at 165.9 which you mix with your grain ending at 154.0 (ie the grain will cool the water somewhat). Leave it for an hour then add water at 197 to your existing mash ending at 168. I'm slightly surprised there isn't a third sparge step which, for BIAB, would usually...

    Tactical Nuclear Penguin

Some friends and I shared a bottle of this at a party earlier in the year, I'd say it's worth buying a bottle to share with some friends but it would be hard to drink one by yourself.... My memory is of a lot of malt and alcohol and not a lot else.

    What Did I Just Brew??

I've made pretty successful beers with little or no specialty malt, they've tended to be at the opposite end of the hop spectrum though. I'd call this beer a potentially interesting hybrid. The malt will give some of the flavours of a classic dark ale or stout, the dark sugar hints of a...

My beer world just got turned upside down

Until a couple of years ago the only American beers that where available in the UK where the classic big brewery, no flavour ones. The general opinion of American beer had been created by these tasteless and rather pointless brews. More recently a few decent American beers have started...

My beer world just got turned upside down

Here in Europe we have the opposite situation, we are used to great European beers, I can buy all three Chimay from local supermarkets. Giving a British person who knows their local beer a quality American brew usually gets the reaction you are talking about. Oh, and you haven't fully...

    Hand Pumped Beer = meh

Getting cask ales conditioned correctly is a very technical skill involving regulating the pressure of CO2 in the cask by alternately using hard and soft pegs called spiles in a small hole in the cask. If done properly the beer inside will be lightly carbonated much like a bottled British Ale...

    SodaStream for force carbonation?

My wife has something similar for making soda water on the cheap and I had one as a child a good 25 years ago. A fair bit of leakage when carbonating water is OK, it's much less acceptable when it is beer leaking everywhere....

Hello from Bolton in the UK

Hi, I'm a long time intermittent kit brewer who has recently moved on to extract brewing and am looking into the possibilities of going all grain at some point fairly soon. I have recently been finding all the good brewing resources on the internet and am slowly absorbing the information...
