    Kettle circulation options mash/whirlpool

I have a 15 Gal Brew-Boss system, got a basket from ArborFab and made a recirculation arm that simply attaches to the BB accessory port and runs down the middle to the bottom of the basket. Probably similar to the CObrewing setup you mentioned. Works well, no complaints...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thanks for the reply, all commando hops is the direction I'm heading. It started with dry-hopping, I used to put the hops in a 300u dry-hopper, now the dry-hopper goes over the keg dip-tube, then a Wilserbrewer hop sock goes over that and gets ty-wrapped at the top, dry-hop then transfer to a...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Since you brew this with yeast harvesting in mind, do you use a hop bag/spider or simply let them go commando? Up until this point I've always used a spider but I got a pick-up tube for my kettle and want experiment with letting the hops roam free, but I still would like to keep hop debris in...

    Pilsner Malt Help

FWIW, I use pils for "two-row" in about 70% of my batches with a 60 minute boil and have never experienced any DMS off-flavors or aroma...

Looking for hops suggestions - hoppy blond?

Probably not what you are looking for since it's not citrusy, but I visited a new brewpub last night for the first time and really enjoyed their "Liberty Blonde" which I believe used all Liberty hops. At least the description didn't mention any others. I think one reason I enjoyed it so much is...

Reusing Ball/Mason Jar Lids for Yeast Harvesting - Yes or No?

Yes, not completely air tight, but for this application I think it helps in case your harvest isn't finished off-gassing. I haven't experienced any kind of contamination issues from it, not to say that I never will, but I've been using them for more than a year. I do tend to use my harvested...

American Pale Ale Russian River Row 2 Hill 56 Clone

Can't help you on flavor differences, I've made this recipe four times in the last year, the last time substituting Chinook for Simcoe, but I've always used a 60 minute boil. I'll be kegging the Chinook version tonight...

    American IPA Fresh Squeezed IPA

No worries, I was only trying to point out that this recipe was never designed or intended to be a Deschuttes Fresh Squeezed clone. I think that is missed at first by many people, including myself. The OP even said he was being a "dork" when he named the thread, but to him the name is still an...

Actual Opening of a 1" butterfly valve???

Well my eyeballs ain't what they used to be, I am able to slip an 19/64" drill bit into the spaces on either side of the butterfly, but since those openings aren't round there is still a bit of daylight on either side of the bit. I would still say the total net opening will be pretty darn close...

Actual Opening of a 1" butterfly valve???

I was wondering if that might be where you were going with this :D With the valve open and eyeballing it with a ruler it looks like the two openings are 3/8" x 1/2" which should get you a net 3/4" opening or very close to it...

    Brew Boss Systems

I use a diy IC with a pre-chiller coil and a diy whirlpool arm. I usually go from boil to 62F in 16 min or less. Certainly not as fast as a CFC or plate, but easy to clean and use, no plans to change...
