    Group Buy Central Ohio

I'm getting together a group buy from NCM in the central Ohio area. Last time we did this had enough for a pallet without needing to post anywhere else. This time though, looks like we're at around 20 bags. So since a pallet runs 42 bags we have some space and want to keep the costs for...

how long can I store a starter for before the yeast go bad

think of it a a big tube of white labs yeast. They make a starter and put the yeast in a tube and let it sit for a long time. Keep it cold and make another starter as has been said above

    First time stir plate starter

yeah, I agree with above. Usually it'll turn to look like coffe with creamer added when its "done". wy1469, now that one blows all over the place

Ball valve on kettle, flow issues (bazooka)?

I use pellets and a shirron plate chiller. Someone around here posted a build they did with a paint strainer bag. This is what I use, no clogging porblems at all. The 5 gallon strainer bag fits on a plastic pipe fitting and use a big worm clam to strap it down.

How to tell 2 row and pilsen malt apart?

Hah! I sort of did the same thing, except my 2 year old ripped off the tape that said which was which. I took some samples to our brew club meeting and had the brewer at gordon biersch identify them for me. Although he said it really didnt matter except for the pilsner specific brews. I used...
