WLP800 Fermentation Is Blowing My Mind

You know, I didn't check to see if the yeast were any good, I just assumed they were still good since I bought them a few days before I brewed. Also, the HBS keeps old yeast in a separate bin. Batch size is 5 gallons. I do not have an oxygen stone, but I tried my best to oxygenate with vigorous...

WLP800 Fermentation Is Blowing My Mind

Brewed my first lager (5-gallon batch size) with a 1.049 OG and pitched a single packet of WLP800 at 52 F. I did a bit of research and asked local HBS owner and microbrewery owner what should my fermentation schedule look like. The plan was to ferment at 52 F for pretty much as long as it takes...

Goodbye Swamp Cooler, Hello Fermentation Chamber

I have the cool difference set to 1° F difference. Meaning if it rises 1° F above set temperature, the unit will cut on and cool until set temperature is hit, then cut off. This holds temp pretty tight. I have also started using a thermowell dip tube rather than the “tape probe to the side of...

    Custom Tilt Integration (Feedback Reqeust)

Nice! There are countless brewing software integrations the TILT works with - I just wanted a bit more control over layout and metrics captured, plus it's a combination of two things I love, brewing and software design. Also, some of the brewing software out there charges more for TILT...

    Custom Tilt Integration (Feedback Reqeust)

The Saison finished fermenting and I decided to brewed Mexican Lager today. 3 brews in 3 weeks! I am still using the TILT device integrated into my personal website to track the fermentation of this brew and other previous brews; updating the integration application I as I brew more and add more...

Goodbye Swamp Cooler, Hello Fermentation Chamber

I was so excited about my fridge, I picked it up 10 minutes before they closed instead of waiting the next day 😂 It was also raining. You are not going to lose any thermal transfer through the hole, it's more work and something that is not the slightest issue. Been using the above setup for 3...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I wanted to share my sparging arm device mounted to the top of 10-gallon Igloo cooler top. I haven't used it yet but I am certain it will work jussssttt fine. Here were some of the parts I used: Drill bit set SS Bulkhead FPT 1/2 (outside the mash tun) SS Coupling (inside the mash tun) 1/2...

    Custom Tilt Integration (Feedback Reqeust)

Added some cool features (links to photo album) and changed the layout to be a little more aesthetically pleasing. Now you can access images by either clicking on the thumbnail picture or from the table of all the previous brews. :mug:

Goodbye Swamp Cooler, Hello Fermentation Chamber

I just removed the light cover which gave me access to the light bulb. I removed the light bulb, placed the light cover back on. No more lights now!

    Custom Tilt Integration (Feedback Reqeust)

I decided to add a new page with all the brews that have been previously monitored and also brews currently being monitored. I only monitor (or ferment) one beer at a time with the TILT device (since I only have one and a small fermentation chamber). This link will navigate users to the...

    Custom Tilt Integration (Feedback Reqeust)

Well, the German Hefeweizen finished fermenting after 7 days so I racked it to secondary. I decided to brew a Belgian Saison (from this recipe) and will be logging the fermentation for the next few weeks. Stay tuned and check out the link for fermentation updates. :mug:

Cool Wort Using Recirculation, Questions about Setup?

Here is my first brew with the new setup. I decided to use the BrewHardware Spincyle Overboard, No Drill Kettle Whirlpool Return to create the whirlpool in my brew kettle. It worked great. I cooled my wort to pitching temp. (~ 65F) in 15 minutes completely hands free. Here is just using the...

Mango addition - chunks or puree?

Just checking back in. Using the fresh mangos and the method I described above did not turn out as I wanted! I think this batch was doomed from the start because of an already high gravity beer (not intentional, just used too many grains). But the mangos turned the already ethanol flavored beer...

Goodbye Swamp Cooler, Hello Fermentation Chamber

Try and drop the temperature probe inside a glass of water or tape the probe to the side of your fermentor using athletic tape. If the probe is just sitting in ambient air, you may get mixed temperature readings. Another not, you'll also need to adjust the temperature difference threshold that...

    Custom Tilt Integration (Feedback Reqeust)

I recently purchased a Tilt V3 from eBay for $135.00 (with tax $143.10) and while I waited for it to arrive, I built out a custom integration and web interface to view a fermentation rate and temperature chart in. Here is a link to the web interface and integration: https://tinyurl.com/yapntawv...

Goodbye Swamp Cooler, Hello Fermentation Chamber

I decided to use this heater from others who suggested it on the forums. I have not had to "use" the heater as of yet with an actual batch of beer. If this fermentation chamber is inside and not exposed to freezing cold garages or basements, then the heater really is not needed. So, I cannot...

Goodbye Swamp Cooler, Hello Fermentation Chamber

Awesome. If your fermentor fits without a collar then no-collar is necessary. Although the collar does add some extra room for things like blow-off tube jugs.
