Growing hops for the first time

@wootz001 thanks for sharing about your centennials. I have 11 different varieties planted out on my families farm. Centennial, Williamette, and Tettnanger are staying alive but haven't produced cones yet. Thanks to your post I think I will keep trying with them.

Growing hops for the first time

I just got my little raised bed pruned, fertilized, strung and mulched. I was surprised that my Saaz sprouted this year. Last year I thought it died but apparently it survived. 1st is Saaz, 2nd is Nugget (an incredible producer that gives me over a pound each year) and last is Cascade. And I'm...

    Need help deciding between fermenters

Interesting read. A lot of good info from experiences others have with a variety of options. I was however amazed there was no mention of Fermzillas. I've been brewing more than 30 yrs and I have used a variety of vessels to ferment in from plastic buckets to Spike CF5s. I currently us a CF5...

What I did for beer today

I cleaned another Sanke keg and transferred a Czech Pilsner into it then placed it in the kegerator to lager for about 6 weeks. Then I enjoyed, I mean tested a new pale ale brewed 3 weeks ago and simply enjoyed a couple of IPAs brewed back in January.

    Us05 under pressure

It turned out great tasting. At first I was pleased with the carbonation but it wouldn't hold pressure satisfactorily. I haven't fermented a mead under pressure since. I think I prefer it still over carbonated.

What I did for beer today

I brewed a pale ale using my experimental yeast and it had activity in 4 hours. I will monitor fermentation closely and keep the temperature at 68 to 72 degrees. I expect it to perform much like US 05 and Chico 1056. I also kegged a Marzen brewed 1/30/25. Got it lagering til St Patty's Day.

What I did for beer today

I've been working on establishing a personal yeast strain. It's elementary but I have repitched a strain of ale yeast over 20 times. Now I have cleaned it and rebuilt the yeast to a pitch able size. It is in its final beaker ready to pitch tomorrow into an American Pale Ale.

    New Dude

I recommend Brewhardware.com for a host of equipment needs. Yakima Valley Hops is a great source for hops and Morebeer.com is my go to for most everything else. Good luck moving forward and hoppy brewing.
