    Dark Strong not dark

Hi folks. I need a little help figuring out what went wrong with my brew. Last month I brewed a Unibroue Trois Pistoles clone. It's a Belgian Dark Strong. The recipe looks all goodand includes 1 pound of dark candi syrup and 1 pound of Lyles Golden syrup. Beer smith shows the recipe at 27 srm...

    Yeast growth calculator

Is there an online calculator that estimates how many cells that result from a starter or fermentation based on the O.G. And pitch rate?

3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

👍👍👍👍. Let us know how this works out. I can't have water left running where I will be storing my unit when I get it so I was planning on transferring to fermenters. This could change that at a nice price point.

I'd buy your brewtechs if I wasn't so far away. I'm about to get a couple this weekend.

    Stuck pump.

No. For now I just have it attached to a two by four. My retailer offered to fix it up for me if I can't get it working so ill try and adjust it.👍

    Stuck pump.

Thanks! I'll try that as soon as I get some time this week.

    Stuck pump.

So early this summer I purchased my first pump, a center inlet chugger pump. I tested it out with water and quickly realized that a priming outlet would work. I built that and successfully tested a couple of more times with water. Worked great. Then I left it in storage for several months...

    Problems with strike temps

When I first started brewing I had similar problems. Missing my mash temp by about two degrees. At first I just heated my strike water a little hotter than beer smith suggested. Later I realized that beersmith also takes into account the grain temperature and is preset at 22 Celsius. Now I...

I haven't used one but I normally start by taking the temperature of my grain and changing that setting beersmith mash section. I follow the temp that it spits out end up hitting my mash temps perfectly.

That would probably work just fine. The obvious option would be to just skip the whirlpool and just toss the hops in or suspend them with a hop bag and fishing line.

    any beginners from B.C?

I'm in Langley so I don't know where you would get stuff in grand forks. Shipping from kelowna sounds like your best bet.

    any beginners from B.C?

If by BC you mean British Columbia you'll want to let us know where abouts. It's a pretty big place.

3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

This might work for me. I could store the BIAC next to a full sized fridge in my garage and keep my cellared beers and a bucket of water in it. I could pump water from the bucket through the BIAC to cool it during fermentation and have a fermwrap on it at the same time for heating. A cheaper...

Not determined at all. In fact not whirl pooling would eliminate another step. I wonder if a set up like this would work for cooling

Is there a way to whirlpool in the BIAC? Is it even necessary? I'm wondering about hop steeping with ipa's. Usually I whirlpool them in my boil kettle to keep them suspended. Could I recirculate from the bottom and then back in through the racking port?

Great idea. That could definitely work.

Wait. Excuse my ignorance but how does one of these work? Would it simply go on the outlet and then you would recirculate for a minute while oxygenating? That sounds like a nice closed loop setup.

    Get wrap, etc temperature range

I will try this for sure. I'll leave it for a week though. I rarely brew twice in 7 days.
