Using a grain bag in a mash tun.

what's the estimated efficency with this method? i usually get 72% in my cooler/mash tun but cleaning it up is a b**** and if the bag helps and i won't lose much efficency, i'd love to try it

What are some of the mistakes you made...where your beer still turned out great!

i tried brewing an apa 1.5 months ago... i messed up with the hop additions (i used EKG instead of Perle... and then i used some more Perle... only to found out it was chinook actually). Fast forward three weeks and i'm ready to bottle, i wash my bucket, get my priming sugar, sanitize my...

    Hefeweizen recipe

yes, that would have worked but i see you already brewed it. Good to hear it tastes good

    Leftover grain jumble

50% wheat, 50% pils and 2oz of tettnanger for a nice hefeweizen, save the rest of the malts for future brews

    Hefeweizen recipe

I'd leave the caramunich out since it will probably put you out of your target SRM. I'm under the impression most hefes call for 60% wheat, 40% pilsner so i wouldn't worry about that missing grain, just aim for a better efficency and you'll make up for the lost ppgs

    Here's something silly. I need a pot

are they 'vaporeras' by any chance? Those pots are usually used to cook tamales & corundas. Have used one in the past with decent success for BIAB.

    Identifying a misterious yeast

Oh, didn't think about that and that could be very well be the case. I'm gonna try sending an email to the brewers and see if they are willing to share information about their strains. edit: That didn't work, guess I'll have to culture it and hope it turns out a proper Irish yeast

    Identifying a misterious yeast

hey, everyone! Last night I brought some beers home. There's an Stout in that lot that has quite a bit of yeast sediment and I'm thinking about culturing it since I only have access to a small selection of dried yeasts (a few from fermentis & notty from danstar). The beer is good, 'Chocolate...

Brewing Concept - Dark Side of the Moon in beers

well, speak to me -> breath are pretty well chainned to eachother so i'd say porter->stout same thing with brain damage -> eclipse, so probably ordinary bitter -> extra special bitter i'm sorry to say i skip on the run 4 out 5 times, though i do play the rest of the album edit: come to think...

    Bottled beer

    you sir kinda win the internets but I think you need a factory pattern in there: if(post.contains("bottled beer") && post.contains("how long")) { Post newRevvyPost = RevvysPostFactory.createStandardResponse(Post.STANDARD_BOTTLE_WAITING_TIME); website.addpost(newRevvyPost) }

    Possible fermenter?

I use similar containers, they're made out of HDPE so pretty much the same as a pail ale. They're hard to clean though. I usually put a gallon of oxyclean-water in there and shake the hell out of it for 5 to 7 minutes, rinse & repeat and finish with some starstan whilst they're not being used...

    Black Project Stout

would i run into much trouble substituting the 8oz of special b with a mix of crystal 60L and crystal 120L? there's no lhbs and the online suppliers near my state don't carry it.

    Didn't activate yeast

if you still don't see any activite, just add another pack of yeast and that's it, no need to dump it. Be sure to sanitize the package and whatever tool you use to open it though (i dip it in starsan along with the scissors i'll use to crack it)

    Alternatives for rice and corn...

masa de maiz i can get literally in the same block my house is in, that's pretty cool. So I should just mash with the rest of the grain and skip the cereal mash? If that's so, things are looking pretty good to brew this one over the weekend, thanks!

    Alternatives for rice and corn...

I apologize in advance for resurrecting this old thread but my question seems to fit really well here. I'm trying to brew the cream of three crops by bm and there's no lhbs. The closest one is located over 4hrs from me and the online suppliers on Mexico don't carry flaked corn. Now since I...
