Brew Files Podcast Episode 57 - Old School Triple IPA

Successful brew of ‘Day Ender’. I’ll definitely be working triple ipas into my rotation ;)

    Anyone brewing Brut IPA?

Ferment fully in primary, cold crash and then dry hop in the keg - should help. If you aren’t adding calcium during the boil, maybe give that a shot as it can help with yeast flocculation. Dry hop with lower oil content hops (not Galaxy). Fine with gelatin. No US05/wlp001/chico - go for a...

    Anyone brewing Brut IPA?

I completely agree, thermal degradation rate should go to zero unless some degradation product (denatured enzyme?) begins to stabilize the remaining protein... I’m not defending their data! Don’t know how many data points were used to generate these curves and maybe they were off on the last few...

    Anyone brewing Brut IPA?

Found an enzyme information page on a Swedish university website - looks like some decent temperature stability data for a number of food industry enzymes including amyloglucosidase (pg 2): https://bioenv.gu.se/digitalAssets/1608/1608318_enzyme-information.pdf

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Hello seatazzz, I picked up the tip here via Mr. Shapland’s Old School IPA discussion: https://www.experimentalbrew.com/podcast/brew-files-episode-57-old-school-triple-ipa 1/4 cup everclear to 10mL of CO2 hop extract (probably too much everclear) led to a mostly soluble/suspension that...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Triple IPA named “Day Ender” in honor of Mr. Shapland. Bravo/CO2 extract for bittering, comet/centennial/amarillo and cryo simcoe for flavoring/whirlpool/2 dry hop additions. 16 Lb golden promise and 1.5 Lb sugar for a 1.091 OG. Everclear + CO2 extract works well...

Brew Files Podcast Episode 57 - Old School Triple IPA

This was a fantastic episode, thanks Drew and Denny! My key learning here was how Craig handles the CO2 hop extract by first dissolving it in grain alcohol/everclear. I’m feeling pretty confident that I can swing for the fences on this style now and the results should be drinkable ;)

    So who's brewing this weekend?

NEIPA w/ golden promise, flaked oats, flaked wheat, 1318 & Strata ;)

Tired of Citra, Mosiac, and Galaxy NE IPAS

Nice thread. I’m liking comet/simcoe, mosaic/motueka and apollo/simcoe/cascade, cascade/Apollo/comet (cheap!), Vic’s/mosaic is pretty badass also.

    Lemonaughty hops?

I got in touch with YVH (Kaleb) via email and they aren’t carrying lemonaughty for 2018 :( I’m going to fire up some neomex hops for my experimental hop brewing schedule this year. Did a Medusa pale ale and I’ve got some Zappa and Sabro ready to go! Anyone snag some new-release or experimental...

    Nelson Sauvin hops anywhere?

FYI - YVH has 2018 Nelson remaining in 2oz pkg, and Morebeer.com has 1 & 2oz pkgs. Brewed with the YVH (saison, 2017 Nelson, 4oz whirlpool) and they were great. Did a NEIPA with 1318, Galaxy and Nelson (8oz each, Galaxy from YVH and Nelson from morebeer). Gotta say this is the best Nelson I’ve...

    WLP066 London Fog

I used this yeast once and it’s very 1318-like in its performance in my hands and is less focculent/more hazy. Stuff stayed in suspension from start to finish for a 5 gallon keg. Hop character and aroma were just a touch lower IMHO than when I brewed the same beer w/ 1318 but this was not a...

    Anyone brewing with medusa?

Thanks for your thought on Medusa. I went with a 34/70-fermented pale ale (152F mash temp, 1 hour) and 5.5oz as a flame out addition and 3.5oz as a dry hop addition on day 6. Will post results/pics after cold crashing and force carbonation. Cheers.

    ThermoBarrel electric BIAB system

Hello BrewingPete, Did you ever follow through with this idea? I liked it and converted my 10g system with a 1650W hot rod heat stick (brew hardware) and BIAB from the brew bag.com. Works fantastically well. A nice rolling boil led to a boil off of about 2/3 gal over 60 min.

    NE IPA Dry Yeast

I heard that rumor also. Thanks for sighting another great dry option gents!

    NE IPA Dry Yeast

Thanks. It’s looking like there isn’t a US delivery option on that website :( I’ll do some more hunting... You’re right w/1318 (my fav) and kviek - people are still toying w/ wlp066, wlp644 and S04/T-58/WB06 blends... I’d like to have a few packs of dry Conan on hand rather than US05
