    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Reno, Thanks for the great recipe! I brewed this today and can tell already by the hydrometer sample this is going to be a winner. I batch sparge, so if anyone is looking for numbers/procedure on that, this is how it worked out on my 5gal system (20gal cooler, 10gal Polarware kettle, Denny...

I think I have an Infection

Oh yeah. Nottingham is notorious for that kind of flocculation.

WTF did he have in his carboy?

Exactly what I was thinking. Lots of yeasts put out nasty sulphurous odors (Apfelwein, anyone?) I'm sure this could easily build up in a small apartment quickly.

I think I have an Infection

Hate to break it to you, but you indeed have an infection. A yeast infection, that is :) :mug:

    Lazy?

I'm in the exact same boat. Kegging is easy and all, but it's just not the same as bottling. With bottling, I can give lots away to friends and family...not to mention competition entries. I even have a Beergun, but sometimes would just rather bottle with plain old corn sugar than hooking it...

Have you ever been stuck on one beer? (yes) Ok, which?

Two Brother's "Dog Days" Dortmunder style lager is officially my beer for Summer 2011. Absolutely fantastic.

    Natty Never Tasted this good!

Hate to say it, but you might want to move your boiling kettle to a spot where you don't have nasties falling into your brew... you need to leave your kettle open during the boil to allow unwanted chems to evaporate (most notably DMS!)

Are the posts on a corny keg identical?

I too am guilty of this; ruined one of my kegs by putting the wrong post on the wrong side. Had to remove it with a hammer and ended up bending the post so much that it no longer held pressure. Make sure you keep them separate!

    SS autosiphon... any interest??

This and the other concerns everyone has expressed in the thread. I love my auto-siphon, but man, you drop that thing a foot and it cracks. I typically go through about two a year for this reason. Would love to see a stainless version available.

    Two Brother's Domaine DuPage recipe

I also live very close to the brewery and this is one of my favorite beers. A while back I brewed the BYO clone, and while the grain bill is close, the Belgian yeast is completely incorrect. You definitely need to use a Bier de Garde yeast for this beer. A fellow member (Joe Dragon) and I...

What do you love/hate about your LHBS??

I suppose you're right. They did eventually put up a sign on on the fridge about the yeasts. Reading the rest of the thread, I did think of one more gripe.. Only their growing supplies are listed on their website. No listing of homebrew supplies whatsoever, even when they have a pretty good...

    brewing Indoors with Propane

I'm not a chemist, but when using propane, Carbon Dioxide (Co2) should be your primary concern over Carbon Monoxide (Co). While both are generated, I believe much more Co2 is generated than Co. It is denser than air and as such displaces the surrounding air (from the bottom up.) Lots of...

What do you love/hate about your LHBS??

My LHBS is BevArt aka "Brew and Grow" in Bolingbrook, IL. Love: The homebrew "guy" (Bob, I believe) is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and eager to help. I believe he used to work for Goose Island Brewery. Always offers samples of his brews, which he brews in house for instructional...

the case of the mysterious plastic taste

Also, be very careful using garden hose, as the cheaper ones tend to contain lead and can be leeched into your brew water :(

    Gordon Strong's New Book

Quoted for truth.. to me, this book read like a long forum post from an engineer who's had tons of experience brewing. It's not meant to be a technical manual if that's what you're expecting.

    Some brewday videos...

Very nice system and I enjoyed watching both vids! One question, what is the program you use to monitor the temp in your kettles? Something you wrote, freeware, etc? I too, am Mac based.. Thanks!

    worst beer you ever made

I wanted to experiment with Yerba Mate and thought a Witbier would be a perfect compliment (thinking tea + lemon, etc.) Added enough Yerba Mate to make each 12oz serving contain a full cup of tea. WAY too much Yerba Mate.. you could drink about one and your heart would be racing. The tea...

    Which book would you buy?

Seconded. I got this book three days ago and haven't been able to put it down. I own and have read lots of beer books, if I were you I'd say the following are must haves (In order of personal pref.) Brewing Classic Styles Designing Great Beers Brewing Better Beer Yeast
