    Kviek, any disadvantages?

I see this myth much too often. "Suck back" is caused by cooling (delta Temp), and cannot be mitigated by time ... unless you have a leak, in which you have an even bigger problem!

    Utility sink recommendations wanted

SS is definitely the way to go (esp. with a nice pre-rinse faucet), and should last a lifetime, so total life cycle cost might be better than you think. Check out Craigs List and other sources for used commercial kitchen items. Sadly a lot of restaurants have gone/are going out of business and...

    Non-diluted StarSan in fermenter bucket

FYI, that is the abbreviated name. The proper name is: dodecylbenzenesulphonicexpialidocious.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

My Spike insulated glycol lines weep more than a crushed school girl, esp. when the temp/humidity conditions are ripe for this. I am planning to apply another layer of closed cell insulation (e.g. K-Flex) around this. I also expect to get some better energy efficiency from my IceMaster glycol...

Brewing for a wedding... ideas on selection?

That ^^. My experience also shows that gatherings with non beer connoisseurs will flock 90% to lagers.

Longtime Lurker - My Keezer Build

Very nice! One observation is that you have really long shanks. I have 4-1/8" in mine, and could have gotten away with 3-1/8" and wish I did. I also use similar insulation on the collar, but have a small rectangular section of (unglued) insulation around the shank entries that I can remove if...

Why no higher end picnic taps?

Well, Ralphie, you're not supposed to perform mouth-to-tap dispensing! On second thought, I think I did just that back in college... :bott:

    Make IPA Clear Again

I had a reality check at a big event (as defined in our current covid world, about 25 people on the back deck with at least some form of social distancing) at my house last week. I had 5 of my best home brews to show off: IPA, Helles lager, brown ale, an ESB (which won 1st in a large local...

What's been your single most beneficial homebrewing upgrade?

Going to a conical fermenter (with CO2 blanketing), definitely. It gives you opportunities to make several step change improvements: easy dumping of break/trub (eliminating need for secondary, if you go that way); capturing yeast; very low oxygen operations (dry hopping (e.g. w/purging)...

can't stress how much i love my scale!

Drink too much and eventually you may need a keg of tub lube... 🤪

    Beer storage temp?

Some craft brewers, even well known ones, may still have QC problems. I recently bought a 4-pk of Left Hand IPA cans off the shelf from Total Wine. After about a week in my fridge, I opened one and BOOM! Opened another one and BOOM, another eruption. We either have some quality control...

can't stress how much i love my scale!

Just get some keg lube and keep vasoline out of your brewery/bar and you will never again have to wonder what your various seal materials are and whether they are vulnerable to degradation due to lubricant. And a cheap tube of it lasts a looong time.

    Spike Complete System

Start a bit longer, then trim back once you see how much you need. If cut too tightly, you may wish you had a little more lagniappe for flexibility.

Wyeast 1318 London Ale III Slower Fermentation?

Anybody with a SS conical fermenter know how to check this without opening the thing up? I've had this concern with my Tilt, and have seen remnants of krausen on it after everything is over, but it seems we're flying blind while the process is ongoing.

    Spike Complete System

Would be great if you could share your equipment profile when you get it developed. Thx.

    Marzen Examples

Excuse me if I am saying what most people already know, but it is almost impossible to get a reasonable representation of color v SRM with "uncontrolled" pics. This is because of light (type (natural, LED, incandescent), color, CRI & intensity), background, diameter of glass, and other factors...

    Faucet covers

I simply use a squirt bottle which I have heated and formed the squirter to flow straight up. I fill it with StarSans sol'n and when I'm done for the night, I give the faucet(s) a couple of squirts as far up into the faucet as possible. I was surprised when I started doing this at just how much...

    Ugh :(

Moral of the story is NEVER give up too soon on a (significant) problem and ALWAYS give Google and HBT a shot. I'm frequently amazed at what you can find out there when you least expect it.

    Your best brew -ever-

Thanks. Sorry, didn't mean to divert the thread, but this looked just too good -- especially when you have a wife who loves beer and chocolate. I just won't tell her about the 2000 calories per pint since she's on a diet... o_O
