    Extract based Honey Bacon Beer

1st Batch Recap: Decent beer, can't really taste the bacon. There is a vodka bite to the beer, and the honey came out good. 2nd Beer Recap: Though I was really happy with oscar meyer bacon, on this batch I went with a bacon with honey overtones that was reduced in price. For the infusion, I...

    Extract based Honey Bacon Beer

So this week I bottled the Honey Bacon Maple. I choose to go with 2.5 lbs. amber extract and .5 lbs honey. I had a gravity reading of 1.057 Though I know I have some time before I get to the finished product, I am learning some things, and plan on doing things differently on the next batch...

Friend is clueless and plans on brewing Sunday

I told him I had a capper, so he just had to have some bottles and buy the caps. Honestly though, for doing 2 gallon batches, the best thing to do is buy a case of 16 oz. flip tops. Update: A buddy of his at work has some flip tops he's giving him :rockin: Now, let's see if he takes my...

Friend is clueless and plans on brewing Sunday

Is that because it has a harder time with the pressure from the carbonation? He's going with the mason jars because its cheaper. I told him I thought it would be problematic. Hey, some people have to learn the hard way. Who knows, it just might work. I wouldn't do it though.

Friend is clueless and plans on brewing Sunday

I had a friend try my simple amber I brewed from a 2 gallon food grade bucket fermenter. Tasty beer I might add. He's decided to pick up a similar setup and brew this weekend. He has yet to do much research or seek out any advice. He also plans to use Mason jars as his bottles  I...

    Community Supported Brewing Business

Now that's a great idea! I like the concept that this guy has, it just feels like more should be offered to get people involved. I've tasted his beer, and it's good.

    Community Supported Brewing Business

So this has been milling around my facebook, and I thought it was an interesting concept so I figured I'd share: A Community Supported Nano Brewery, like a food co-op or Community Supported Agriculture, where you buy a share and get veggies.

    Transfering Gluten from past Batches?

I'm considering brewing a gluten free beer for a friend of mine who is highly gluten intolerant. I'm using a two-gallon plastic bucket as a fermenter. After a good basic cleaning, will there be any traces of gluten? If there is, should I worry about it? How about bottles that have had beer...

    Extract based Honey Bacon Beer

So Monday, I worked on infusing the Vodka. I bought some hickory chips and noticed they didn't impart any kind of smell. I lightly charred a small amount and BOOM, out came the aroma. I slow cooked the bacon on medium. I used 6 pieces of Oscar Meyer and got 1 oz. of grease (what I was shooting...

    Extract based Honey Bacon Beer

Love the responses and suggestions. I will report back, and I am guessing it will take a few tries to nail it down 'cause I tend to do things slowly and somewhat methodically :/. I'm a little gun shy on the maple syrup (real), because of how sweet Rouge Brewery's beer was. Also, I'll probably...

    Extract based Honey Bacon Beer

Understand, I'm pretty new at this, so I'm trying to get it :) The explanation really helps.

    Extract based Honey Bacon Beer

I am planning on steeping the smoked grains(the store calls it malt). I'm leaning towards the amber for a "heartier" feel. What would the benefits be using the pale?

    Extract based Honey Bacon Beer

Why? Well, I went to a baconfest party where everyone brought something with bacon in it from sweet, savory to beverage. Then everybody judged them and winners were announced. If I'm brewing it's going to taste good (or have the ability to). I'm somewhat conflicted about this because the last...

2nd Brew - Happy but looking for feedback

For mutton's gold, they sell it in 6g packs for a 5-6 gallon batch. I've split it up, poorly. Would the yeast not eat through all the sugar in a month?

2nd Brew - Happy but looking for feedback

For my second brew, It was the same as the first: A two gallon batch using 3 lbs. of amber extract, saaz hops, and Mutton Gold yeast. For the hops, I used 1/2 oz. for bittering, 1 oz. flavoring, 1/2 oz. aroma. Beginning gravity 1.044, ending gravity 1.017 This batch I left in the primary...

Bottled Early - What should I Expect?

The LME came from a bulk container at a pretty busy homebrew store so I believe it was pretty fresh. We make a pretty mean beer pancake, so the cooking angle is a good idea. I does taste pretty good so I'll end up drinking some. Hey, if 3.5% is good enough for Utah, its good enough for me...

Bottled Early - What should I Expect?

I don't have exact numbers on that, I just know after I bottled I checked the gravity with what was left and it was high. Yes, I know now, mistake.

Bottled Early - What should I Expect?

I took a gravity reading, 1.044. It's now around 1.020. The bottles are stored in temps around 67 degrees. I guess my question is can I possibly get more alcohol out of the beer or would the risk of bottle bombs be too great? Again, no priming sugar. Another concern is I'm guessing it is still...
