    How to fix yeast overflow

Just asking, did you remember to poke a hole with a needle? A balloon (or condom in this case) works as an airlock only if there is a tiny hole or two to let the exces pressure out, otherwise it just builds up pressure and eventually explode or pop off and fly who knows where.

    Aging beer

I guess this has something to do with some people having a kind of inferiority syndrome compared to wines and mead, people thinking that if they get better with age then our beer must do so as well! And while penis stretching with wine brewers and maizers they completely forget that NOT having...

    Low-ABV beer?

No need to boil alcohol away or anything, just make a light wort and bottle it as it is. :D Ok, I am just joking but actually there is a story behind this. I am convinced this is something some non-alcoholic beer manufacturers are doing. Because last summer I bought a big box of cheap NA beer...

    Aging beer

I belong to the school of thought that if the beer requires significant amount of aging then maybe it is just not a good beer / recipe OR you screwed up something in the process. Except maybe super high ABV beers and barleywines, but just long enough to reduce the alcohol bite. Beer is not wine...

    Failed Yeast?

My S-04 did that too. It started like a rocket, then suddenly stopped because the room was a bit too cool. But I moved the bucket into a much warmer room and it slowly started to ferment again, I did not stir. To my knowledge cool temperatures are more important during the initial phase of...

Is Turbo yeast nothing more than distillers yeast + yeast nutrient?

Turbo yeast is meant for distilling so yes, it is the distillers yeast. It is a quick and has high alcohol tolerance but if you want to use it for brewing, don't bother. It tastes like crap, only hobos making cheap hooch can drink it. But when distilling a lot of those bad tasting byproducts are...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

My father has also ruines his back and arm joints by doing heavy labor in cold weather day in and out. I know and have seen what it is like to not be able to move and not lift things without pain. But I did say sicknesses like arithiris are a different story if you are not able to lift things.

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

Maybe not. But I do now realise that maybe I went bit off the rails with my original post, considering what point I was meaning to counter in the first place. Cheers.

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

If they don't want to, they don't have to. I am just saying its not hard but just because it is not hard for an adult person doesnt mean they HAVE to start lifting it. What is completely incorrect is the fricking need to hold it up and letting it drip BY HAND. That was my petpeeve with the...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

My apologies maam. I was merely assuming that beer brewing is a male dominated hobby, hence the use of word man. And I never insulted the 3-pot system, I was merely pointing out the so bad logical fallacy in the post I quoted because it was so grave that I couldn't let it slide but had to get it...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

The persons I was replying to, implying that lifting and holding a 20 pound bag (I am loosely estimating he is doing 5 gallon/~20 liter patches, the most common size for homebrewers) is somehow hard which I find ridiculous idea for any adult person who has ever lifted more than a single pint of...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

Okay, I have to chime in because this is just nonsense. You do not need to hold your bag over the kettle by hand. Buy a big strainer, I got one from IKEA with extendable arms for few bucks, perfect resting my bag on and letting it drip on its own if I dont feel like squeezing. And if you cant...

    Considering getting into All-grain brewing.

A little update, we drank several bottles of my first AG brew and it was almost a glorious success! Actually it tasted so close to the Fullers London Pride that we had to get a few cans of it and compare and it was almost spot on, mine was just eenyweeny bit sweeter. I am convinced that the AG...

    Using StarSan to stop fermentation??!?

Yes, but I was thinking that OP meant pouring in enough of the concentrated form of Starsan that it makes the beer so hostile that it kills the yeasts in middle of fermentation. I would not drink that.

    Using StarSan to stop fermentation??!?

Using Starsan to stop fermentation is IMHO and to my knowledge a highly stupid, probably even dangerous idea. In its concentrated form it is caustic acid. Diluted in water it is not strong enough to be caustic but it is still strong enough to kill microbes on contact. I may sanitize my hands in...

    Bugs in air lock

This is your airlock working as advertised. Keeping oxygen out is one of it, keeping bacteria carrying nasties away is another. But yeah, airlock should have some kind of cover. All of mine came with caps with tiny holes.

1 pound of honey for 1 gallon of mead?

True. But still I found the unexpected results interesting.

1 pound of honey for 1 gallon of mead?

To me yes, atleast thats what I do with my meads although I am not an experienced Maizer. I boil bread yeast and some chopped up raisins for both nutrients and tannins. I am way too fricking lazy for that SNA stuff but so far my meads seem to be ferment and taste just fine. But then again I am...

    Considering getting into All-grain brewing.

Its this one I mentioned above. http://www.thehomebrewcompany.co.uk/biab-starter-kit-peco-boiler-chiller-mashing-bag-mash-kit-p-3313.html As I said I was uncertain how a plastic kettle works but to my surprise it worked really well.

Anyone oxygenated their mash with pure o2?

Yeah sorry about that. I'm used to speaking about compressed gas in canisters as liquids even though that is not true for all gasses.
