Who makes the best extract kits?

I'm biased, as I haven't ordered from anywhere else online, but I love the AHS website. They've got more kit options than I'm able to browse through in one sitting. They make it easy for an extract brewer like me. Out of of the 10 or so kits I've ordered in the last year, I've had 10 awesome...

    Where'd all the beer go?

Dude, first batch and you've already got fans. Sucks that they drank so much of it without you, but it's nice that you've already got some hardcore followers.

    Beer Geyser

After a large order from AHS last week, I finally got the kegerator up and running this weekend. I successfully ran the gas line through the side of the fridge to the manifold which I mounted inside. Didn't hit any coolant lines either! Then I put the 3 shanks thru the fridge door. So far...

    Gas Line Thickness

I went ahead and ordered 1/2" clear gas line. I'll use my existing 5/16 red to run from regulator to manifold. A couple layers of teflon tape should help secure the 1/4 to 5/16 transition.

    Gas Line Thickness

My current regulator has 5/16" red gas line coming off the nipples. I'm adding in a 4 way manifold that has 1/4" nipples. Will 1/4" ID gas line work best for running from the regulator to the manifold? Also, what about the thickness of the gas line? The existing line is red, thick walled...

    Distributor and Shank questions

Thanks for that, tmoney. I'm starting to get a better grasp on it now. As simple as your picture is, it did help quite a bit. There seem to be a lot of excess parts offered up on most sites. From what I can figure, I'll be getting 4 of each of the following - faucet, shank, connection kit...

    Distributor and Shank questions

The regulator will stay attached directly to the tank. I want to run one line from the regulator into the fridge, then attach it to the distributor. The other line coming off of the regulator will remain outside, for keg cleaning purposes. Anyone have mounting ideas that don't involve...

    Distributor and Shank questions

I've currently got a kegging setup with picnic taps. 2 Keg Basic Keg Kit, Premium Kit This one with a dual body regulator. I'm about ready to move to faucets, but I'm a little confused on a couple of things. 1. I'm going to get a 4 way distributor Austin Homebrew Supply to split the air...

How to oak a brew ?

Are the oak chips/blocks usable afterwards? I would imagine that they take on some of the beer flavor, so you wouldn't want to use it in a different brew. What about cooking something in a smoker and using the oak chips?

    Musiccitybrewersfest, Nashville TN

Music City Brewer's Festival The wife and I have tickets for the 12-4pm tasting. The 6-10pm has been sold out for several days now. I've seen several people looking for evening tickets on craigslist. And one person selling an evening ticket for $90. This will be our first time to go...

    Bottle Storage

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/my-newly-discovered-bottle-storage-unit-90478/ There can be only one bottle storage unit!! I've got one of these storing my bottles right now. I got a large legal size one. Each drawer holds 1 1/2 cases of bottles. That's right, 6 cases of beer will fit...

    Chocolate Orange Stout

Why, in the case of lemon/orange flavor, do you use zest instead of the actual fruit? I've got some chocolate stout in primary right now. I'd love to try adding an orange taste to it. What would be more effective? 2 oz of orange zest, or 2 oranges sliced and dumped into secondary/keg?

Looking for a strong intoxicating blonde offering good head

I'm looking to make 2 batches of Blonde, 1 regular, and 1 with a fruit addition. I'm an extract/kit brewer. This will be the first time I've ordered individual ingredients. I'd like to use the BM Blonde Extract recipe linked on the first page. But it calls for 9 lbs of DME. That's...

    Scored a fridge this afternoon...

Sounds like a good plan to me. It really is up to personal preference. You may naturally carb and find that you don't like the little bit of sludge on the bottom. But I've also seen people post that say they prefer the taste when it is naturally carbed. Give them both a try!

What did you brew this weekend?

AHS Stimulus Package Belgian Chocolate Stout. Nothing original about it, but damnit I got it brewed!! Also tapped our first 2 kegs this weekend. One of them has been claimed for a family wedding this weekend. The other one is being consumed all too quickly.

Put a blackboard on your keg!

I'm glad you posted that pizzaman, I was just about to ask about some white-board paint. Someone above posted that they used the chalk board paint, but still wrote on it with dry erase markers. Does this really work? It seems like the dry erase markers wouldn't show up on the black...

    Kelvinator Fridge conversion

I'd really like to get a manifold, but the $40-50 price tag is driving me away. Where's the best place to get them? What's the best way to mount stuff on the inside of the fridge? Theres still the fear of coolant lines hiding behind the walls. And is the fridge lining sturdy enough to not...

    Kelvinator Fridge conversion

We bought a used Kelvinator (I've never even heard of this brand) top freezer/bottom refrigerator at the Habitat for Humanity store for $100. I know that it's 15.4 cu ft, but it has no model number on it anywhere. I checked their website, but they only seem to have info for their current...
