    Chapman univessel

I just bought 2 of them. I modified one and put a ss coil in it to cool it to lager temps like the ss conical. I racked to a keg tonite to lager it. It had no infection and when giving it a rinse to sit overnight I saw no rust. Happy with my first use, but I havent checked if the graduation...

    Priming tips

I use the tabs for my lady's cysers/ciders. They work really well for that. Think I will try them in a few bottles of beer next go round.

    Gnats shut down my brewing

I was having a problem with them too! They killed one of my starters too! I postponed a brew and bottled a previous batch. I use a wallpaper tray to sanitize my racking cane, forgot to dump it back in the bucket. It was full of them in the morning. Appears they like starsan too.

    Temp contolled Chapman fermenter

Update on system: Using 1 frozen 1 gallon bottle every 24 hours and 1 frozen 1 gallon bottle every 12 hours in a old Coleman 28 qt cooler I have easily been able to hold a 52 deg ferment temp since last friday. jcs401 parts list: I cannot find the slip that came in the rubber grommet pack. I...

Help - Water, Phenolic, Tannins, PH

My water has twice the hc03 as yours. Even after making PH adjustments with acid malt in my mash and acids and salts in my sparge and hitting PH numbers the astringent mouthfeel and taste remained. It wasnt until I diluted my water and got the hc03 below 80 that I got rid of it. Try diluting and...

    OxyClean Granules?

I was using oxiclean to de-label bottles and found it leaving a white powdery film in the bottles. Havent used it on my metal gear, use PBW for that.

    Suppliers and Shipping

My 3 goto places are Morebeer, Homebrew Supply and Adventures in Homebrewing. Morebeer ships for free with $59 purchase. Homebrew Supply has a reasonable flat rate shipping cost on most items. Adventures I believe has free shipping on recipe kits. Check these guys out.

    Temp contolled Chapman fermenter

Im travelling now so I dont have exact sizes but I used rubber grommets that fit tight on the coil. I measured the grommet while on the coil to know what size hole to drill in the lid. Then I used small shaft lock collars to hold the coil off the bottom of the fermenter.

    Temp contolled Chapman fermenter

Over this weekend I did a test of my modified chapman fermenter. I basically set it up like the ss brewbucket. I used a 25 ft 1/4" ss wort chiller a itc 1000 temp controller and a cool brewing bag. I drilled holes in the lid for the chiller and a hole in the #10 stopper for a thermowell. I was...

Mangrove Jack's Belgian Wit (M21) Stuck Fermentation

I havent used that yeast, but have had similar experience with WLP400. Once I actually had to let it rise to 74f for it to start up again. Let it warm up some. It shouldnt give too much off flavor if it is that low a gravity.

Saturation for the letters out ther

My first few pints are. Its trub and yeast that settled during the cold crash usually. Sometimes it even tastes pretty yeasty.

Help! (SSBT Chronical)- I forgot the racking arm!

Kegging or bottling? If kegging id just drain it in the keg crash it overnight and the trub will be in the first glass or 2. Bottling id just leave it in the bucket a few hours in a cool place and bottle

    Looking for suggestions re: fermentation

Brent, If you have the time and grains brew it again even if it needs to be a smaller batch and rack it right onto the yeast cake in that carboy. You may get a much more enjoyable batch.

    Looking for suggestions re: fermentation

I would let it ride as long as it's cloudy and has airlock activity. I would also keep it in the mid range of the ferment temp. I had the same thing happen to me in primary with a Belgian wit that stalled. I let it get too warm and got a lot more yeast character than I wanted. Once it starts to...

I brew what I call a golden ale with WLP810 San Fran lager I ferment at 59f until its around 15 points from done. Then I let it rise slowly to 68 til its done. Then I lager it for 30 days. Not a true lager but its a mighty fine beer. Pale malt, carapils, crystal 20 easy!

    Water Gurus Please Help

I have similar numbers. I have been using the brewers friend calculator and diluting my water with distilled. I have to then acidify my sparge water to get a good ph. With that I am still getting astringency when the beer is green. Dave Millers homebrewing book has some estimated numbers of...
