    Bottling with table sugar

Is there a reason to use one over the other? I have table sugar at home all the time. Why would people use powdered dextrose?

    Bottling with table sugar

And here's another basic question: by 'corn sugar' do they mean corn syrup?

    Easiest de-labeling?

I've been buying and drinking bombers like crazy to get enough to bottle a five gallon batch. It's a cross I have borne admirably. Now I need to get the labels off. What is the easiest way? Steve

    First lager: What can expect?

I was kind of surprised by your comment that I was badly underpitching. I am using the starter calculator in Beersmith which says I need 662 billion cells. I am making two 1.5 liter starters from two smack packs, which according to Beersmith will result in 628 billion cells. I thought that...

    First lager: What can expect?

The question is will I need a blow-off tube, or just an airlock bubbler? I mean I know that lager is bottom fermenting, does that mean little to no krausen? I know this isn't a critical thing to know beforehand, I'm just curious. In case it matters, here is the plan: *A Baltic Porter, OG...

American Strong Ale Quilter's Irish Death - Clone/Tribute

I like Irish Death also. I just finished the first class at CWU in a certificate program for the Craft Beer Industry, and our final class was taking a tour of the Iron Horse Brewery (read: lots of free beer in a stimulating environment). ANYWAY, the reason I am responding to this thread is...

Thank you both. That answers my question! Steve

Debittered Black Malt in EZ Water

Hi, I am getting ready to brew a Baltic Porter. I use EZ Water 3.0 for water additions. I use 100% RO water if that matters. The recipe calls for Debittered Black Malt. I am assuming that this means it will not add acidity to the mash, or at least a lot less. So how do I enter this in...

    Cleaning beer lines in kegerator

Ditto here. But this time I am just swapping a half-full keg out for another one I want on tap over Christmas. I really need to buy more kegs... Day Tripper, thanks for the link to that thread. I think I'll head to the hardware store in the AM to find the parts I need to adapt the Sankey...

    Cleaning beer lines in kegerator

Yeah I was hoping there would be a solution that didn't involve an empty keg. They're all full! Steve

    Cleaning beer lines in kegerator

Hey, I have a pressurizing beer line cleaner which works great for sankey connectors. But now that I am homebrewing and using corny kegs, what is the best way to flush/clean the beer lines? Steve

    Overflowing Starter

So I'm confused. I have not had any appreciable foam on a starter because, I assume, the stirring action keeps the bubbles knocked down. But I only have made a 1 liter starter so far; does this effect change as the flask gets more full? Steve

    ISO: Pliny

Yeah I've looked into why we can't get certain beers here in Yakima. I'm always told "it's the distributor." I make trips to Seattle on a fairly regular basis, I just stop by the Beer Junction in West Seattle. I'll should be going over the 20th/21st. If you are willing to pick it up in...

+1 for brewhardware.com. I also have good experiences with MoreBeer and Northern Brewer. Those three are my go-to online stores. Steve

    Raisins for carbonation?

I'm planning to brew a Baltic Porter around Christmas. I'd like to add a bit of raisin flavor. What amount do you think would work in a 5 gallon keg? My first 3 batches I force carbonated, but I can't imagine it would hurt anything to carbonate it this way and then hook it to co2 to serve...

What is your cost per pint?

Lets see... $3,873 on brewing expenses since I started in June. 15 gallons brewed... That would be $32.28 per pint. Steve
