    Starting to make yeast starters

Good morning and a heartfelt Thank You for your responses. Several great ideas and good advice, indeed. I much appreciate your input and now it’ll be time to put in an hour or two of overtime at work in order to go shopping for brew gear. Cheers.

    Starting to make yeast starters

Good day, fellow brewers. Although there’s plenty of information on the topic of yeast starters, one aspect of it bugs me and would like to hear some advice to obtain clarification. For instance, if the idea is to make a 1500ml yeast starter, the instructions usually indicate to add such...

What is it and where to find?????

On the January/February 2018 issue of Zimurgy, page 33, there is a custom gadget from Mr. Thunstrom to construct a blowoff system. I am currently using Fermonster carboys and would love to build such a thing, however, I am having a hard time finding the pictured flange. Does anyone know if it is...

How to join faucet to a liquid ball lock ??

KEG 720 from Morebeer, for a Ball lock keg. Just make sure to use very low CO2 pressure while serving, lest you get a lot of foam.

How to join faucet to a liquid ball lock ??

There’s an adapter for that. You can get it from your local HBS or online, and it connects the tap to the keg without using the shaft in your photo.

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Black Shadow - Cascadian Dark Ale aka Black IPA

Thank you very much for the info. I started with extract, have done a few BIAB batches, and I'm now trying to "graduate" to do all grain. This recipe appealed to me because our oldest son's favorite brew is the IPA, while my wife and I prefer stouts and porters. Could be that a black IPA will...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Black Shadow - Cascadian Dark Ale aka Black IPA

Question Please pardon my blatant ignorance, I'm a beginner at this. Can you please clarify what First WH means, as far as the first hop addition? So far I'm used to seeing minute-based hopping schedules. Thanks

    Morebeer Fermonster Ported--reach to bottom?

I just purchased one of these and I agree with the size of the o-ring being a bit larger than expected but I just went around it with fingertips until it stayed inside groove. Did not have issues. However, I also bought a unit with a spigot and that leaked, despite being tight. Did anyone else...

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

Hops go first, then malted grains will be purchased in totality and fed to those fat horses of theirs. Finally, they will acquire all the stocks of good brewers yeast. I have no idea what exactly they're going to do with it, surely they do not use the good stuff in their existing product lines...

    Trade a baby for brewing?

What a question, indeed. Here's a different perspective. My wife and I have three wonderful kids; back in the day, we were aiming for rotten ones, but, as another old geezer is fond of asserting, "You can't always get what you want ". So we kept them. Anyway, when they were young tykes, they...

    Efficiency

Thank you very much for the guidance. It gives me a heads up on what I need to focus to better grasp the concept and add it to my brewing day logs. I have been doing an iodine solution test, but only as an observational step to see if sugar conversion had been completed, just didn't know how to...

    Efficiency

Good day to you fellow brewers. In my quest to learn something new every day, I reach out to you for help in understanding and measuring brewing EFFICIENCY. I've seen a lot of references to low efficiency as an undesirable circumstance, but from a beer brewing standpoint, what exactly does it...

    Cleaning gear

Thank you for that idea. I imagined that this called for a chemical approach but I'll definitely try this option first.

    Cleaning gear

Hello, I'm a new brewer and newer still to this forum. I'm trying to go all grain and just purchased an used grain mill. Unfortunately, the steel rollers are quite stained and have a rusty area. Given the uneven surface, does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can clean them? Thank you...
