    PicoBrew Zymatic

Here's a view of my cooling process: IC is in the bucket.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I use pellets. I've never used leaf doing this. No issues with the pump because I don't use the Zymatic after I do the hop stand. I cool the wort post-hop stand by hooking up my immersion chiller to the out post of the keg, putting it in ice water, and then pushing the wort out with co2 into a...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

My hop stand process is simple. I chill to 180. I do this in a couple of different ways and would be happy to go into more detail with anyone who is interested. I then shut off the Picobrew and drop in my hop stand hops in a hop sack. I'll stir it a bit at the beginning to be sure it's good and...

    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

Why have you made that decision?

    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

Agreed. I am now about 5 brews in to my switch to RO. I've kept the additions really simple and have eliminated the guess work from the daunting question of "what is really in my water?" While I'm not sure of the actual impact on my beer, everything I've brewed with RO has turned out really well...

20 Day American Pale Ale - Advice?

Hmm...This is my standard way of carbonating and I've never overcarbed. In fact, the beer is always a bit undercarbed after the 30 psi stint. Are you brewing smaller batches? Because using this same routine with, say, a 2.5G batch will get you and overcarbed beer.

I cool to 180 or so, hop stand for 30 minutes, then finish chilling down to pitch temps. My last IPA using this method turned out fantastic. Really happy with it and I wouldn't hesitate to get the machine if you are an IPA lover.

You can definitely just add your hops to the compartment when you load everything else at the start of the boil.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Here's a screenshot of the advanced editor when I've whirlpooled through an adjunct compartment: And here are my notes for the whirlpool step. Note that I used an IC for this. Again, I did not get the results wanted, but the process is solid. And yes, they need to fix the bug that wipes out...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Yes, I've done this and I find the results to be mediocre. I'm pretty sold on the good old fashioned hop stand in the wort instead of through the adjunct compartments.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I've now brewed 11 batches and have overall been very happy with the machine. My favorite thing about it is the ease of cleaning and consistent mash temps. My only complaint is that I don't think late addition hops using the hop compartments give you the same aroma/flavor as you get in a...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I've had my Zymatic for a week now, and it's really an incredible machine. Did back to back batches on Saturday and Sunday. There's a bit of a learning curve with the machine, but I get the sense that once you figure it out, things get progressively easier and more fun. For me, the best thing...

Three simulataneous carboy explosions... what do I win

Ha! Sorry to laugh at your expense, but that is funny. Were you able to somehow keep this secret away from your wife?

Has anyone tried this quick-lagering method?

What styles of beer can it not produce?

I somehow missed this article on the Picobrew this past summer: http://www.beerinfinity.com/an-in-depth-look-at-the-picobrew-zymatic/

    Pliney the Younger is here!

I have it every year at the annual Double IPA Festival at The Bistro in Hayward, CA (it also features many, many great triple IPAs). I waited in line for about 10 minutes to try it this year. So next year I recommend going to Hayward on the first Saturday of SF Beer Week to try The Younger. And...
