Why don't yeast companies just sell liquid yeast packages with higher cell counts?

Well... $7 per smackpack that's more like two to three weeks old (they don't seem to carry the 3 month old at my LHBS). So $42 plus tax... If I do a starter I would save about $35 for a twelve gallon batch... My time is worth more than that I travel, work late, etc... I'd rather focus on beer.

What's the difference if I pitch six fresh smackpacks or make a starter to a 12 gallon batch of ale??? I'll put my beer up against anyones.

Why don't yeast companies just sell liquid yeast packages with higher cell counts?

Meh... screw starters... I'll save money by buying grain by the sack and hops in bulk.... and pitching however many smack packs Mr Malty tells me to... Cheers...

Why don't yeast companies just sell liquid yeast packages with higher cell counts?

This is a somewhat old thread but I agree.... I'm not into making starters at all, I brew 12 gallon all grain batches, seems beers call for 6 smack packs for ales and 8 for lagers without a starter. Why not have different sizes? Package it one time and be done with it. I don't want to focus...

Why is that? I mean raspberrypints + brewpi looks like it's a good system and all if you're into putting it all together but what more does it give than brewbit?

damn... I was walking the dog and trying to edit the 'name' on the brewbugs screen and when I saved it... my data got nuked...wtf? Edit: I'm pretty sure I was in 'test' mode at first since I used 'tare' independently and then put it in my brew and then realized I should have gone through the...

    The Beer Bug

Thanks for the tip... I wasn't thinking about just tying a knot at the end of the string... so I've got that one in water and I'll test it all day to see how it fairs on a known gravity. I put the other in my scottish ale last night and I just don't have the warm and fuzzy with it yet to trust...

    New Temperature controller (Brewbit)

ok... I ordered the STC1000 for one of my chest freezers for now... I can't believe how cheap that thing is.... Since brewbit has been so quiet I'll go ahead and assume they won't be shipping within nine days.... I'm totally looking forward to getting the two that I ordered though; just need to...

    New Temperature controller (Brewbit)

Yeah... I was just looking at brewpi and although I know that I can get it all put together, I really don't want to spend the time to do it and would rather spend my time doing other things like building out my keezers and brewing beer. So... I guess I'll wait BUT weekly updates at this point...
