    Porter is very sweet

I don't think I need to read any stickies in the beginner forum thanks. Anyway, I have and use my hydrometer and usually brew all grain. This batch was a quick extract batch. As I said earlier, I was drinking homebrew and forgot to take a grav reading. I'm not asking for help, just thoughts on...

    Porter is very sweet

Priming sugar added was the standard amount for 5 gallons. I was referring to the fermentable sugars from the grain. (extract in my case) I think I'll give it another few weeks, but if it's still sweet at that point, perhaps I could dump it all in the fermenter and repitch some yeast?

    Porter is very sweet

I recently brewed up an American Robust Porter. A Jamil recipe. This one: http://beerdujour.com/Recipes/Jamil/JamilsRobust_Porter_Extract.html Anyway, it's been bottled for around 2 weeks now, carbonation is coming along. I thought I'd test one out just for kicks. Doesn't taste bad. But...

    Homebrew Stores in Cleveland/Youngstown/Pittsburgh?

I don't think Akron has small town syndrome. They have lots of good stuff!

    Homebrew Stores in Cleveland/Youngstown/Pittsburgh?

I live in Cleveland and travel to Akron/Kent frequently. Homebrew stores: Grape and Granary in Akron, JwDover in Westlake. Those are the two best around. I'd say they are about equal but I go to JwDover because it's closer and I really like the beer the make in their brewery that's just behind...

10 years on...anyone care to share 9/11 thoughts?

I wouldn't typically post anything like this, but since I see there is some light-heartedness on the subject I think I can. All I have to say is... be careful who you trust. Who do you think are the real terrorists? Are they the KKK, Castro, the Commies, the Muslim Brotherhood? Or your own...

Clone Beer Dog Fish Head - Midas Touch

Nice, when it carbs up you should post a picture. Mine seems like it is going to be MUCH darker than the original.

Clone Beer Dog Fish Head - Midas Touch

Welp today I'm gonna put the concentrate into the fermenter, let's see what happens. Had a minor leak through the airlock a few day ago. Tells me I'm on the right track.

Clone Beer Dog Fish Head - Midas Touch

I wound up using DME. I guess we'll see what happens. So I got this Global white grape concentrate. Well.. my girlfriend did. Is it the right sort of concentrate to use here? http://www.thegrape.net/browse.cfm/white-grape-concentrate/4,12287.html

Clone Beer Dog Fish Head - Midas Touch

I just wanted to confirm that this recipe calls for DME and NOT LME. I have 8 lbs of DME ready to go and I don't want to plop all 8 lbs in the kettle if LME is what's needed. Also- My kettle is around 4 gallons. It should be okay to do the recipe with 3 gallons then add 2 gallons of water to...

    Stone/Baird/Ishii Green Tea IPA Wanted

I actually found this locally the other day and picked up a few bottles. Very tasty.

    Possible infection. Savable?

I pulled a sample from the pale ale. It still tastes good. My thoughts now are to either dump the IPA to a bucket and repitch yeast so I can bottle condition and then keg the pale ale. Or to just go ahead and bottle the pale ale. Only thing is I'm trying to get this drinkable by next Saturday...

    Possible infection. Savable?

I tasted the IPA that's in the keg this morning. I don't like the taste at all. Is it possible that it will mellow out in the next few days? Or just going to get worse? As far as the pale ale pictured above, I haven't touched it yet. It's still in the secondary. Should I skim off and keg?

    Possible infection. Savable?

I opened up my two secondary fermenters (Stone IPA clone and GLBC Burning River clone) and found this in both. Before I realized it was an infection and I just thought it was some hop residue, I kegged the Stone clone. After tasting it.... whew is it sour... I figured it may be infected. My...

Entering a contest. What's my style?

What's the contest you are entering in? My beers are nowhere near ready for a contest although I'd like to get feedback.

    Kegging for the first time

False alarm. Turns out my picnic style faucet was just turned a little bit too much. The beer was coming out. The simple things always get ya. Damn!

    Kegging for the first time

Update: I kegged the beer. I've been letting it sit today at a lower psi, around 10. I thought I'd plug up the beer out line to see how carb'd it was and BAM. Beer spewing everywhere. Even when I plugged up the line with the faucet it would come out uncontrollably while co2 was pumped in. I...
