Minnesota New HBS in Rogers, Minnesota

Just got back from the Cities. Stopped off at Minnesota Home brew. Nice selection of hops, yeast and grain. It was so nice to smell and sample a few grains. Ended up buying more then I expected but that tends to happen. Being able to talk with someone knowledgeable was so dang nice. I am...

Planning my next beer to be a Hefe

I use dry yeast most of the time for brewing due to weather and fitting into my schedule. I love Munich Classic fermented at 68f and have used it for years. This year I tried the W-68 dry yeast. It came out really well but am not sure which i prefer. For a change I used Imperial Stefon last...

Priming Sugar in Corny Keg without CO2

How long has your Amber been in the fermenter? If only a few weeks you are just fine. I have two pale ales to keg and bottle. Been in there 3 weeks so will xfer sometime this week.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

How big of a batch do you brew? My club does a big brew/wort day where we all bring home 8-24 gallons. This years was a pale ale/IPA recipe. I like splitting mine into 2 batches. I use a different yeast in each to see what it and a different 5 minute boil hop addition brings to the table...

    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

That's how mine are. I thought about jars but decided that pouring out into a jar exposed them to much more oxygen then just snipping a corner and pouring out what I need. I removed 4-6 ounces and sealed and back in freezer. Then I seal up what is not for current brew day into smaller...

Best names for your beer batch?

I have a Cashmere hopped pale ale in the fermenter. Due to it and mosaic it smells like lemon berry nice and bright and that is from the airlock. I think Sparkalater would be a good name.

    Lift off!

I always have at least a gallon of headroom in the fermenter to give the krausen somewhere to expand. On my 6.5 gal BMB I will fill it to 5.25 gal.

    Beer Cool Down

There are plenty of pond pumps listed on english language Amazon. Just don't get a 2000gph one. You want it slower to give the water time to transfer the heat into the water.

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

If I remember correctly, you don't really want to give them high nitrogen fertilizer after beginning of June. Otherwise they keep growing longer and not producing the arms and cones. I stir in slow release organic fertilizer granules in May and then a few times with liquid fertilizer May. June...

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

Well I will probably dig up the Willamette next spring and move it to family farm. Since I am in northern minnesota I need a hardy one. What would be good choice as replacement? Chinook or Cascade?

    Free wort in Minnesota 8-23-2025

Go over to the North Central Homebrew forum if you want to get free wort without all the mashing. So much better then extract as it is freshly made from grain.

Minnesota Free wort day at the brewery. 8-23-2025

We cancelled the one earlier this month so rescheduled to the 23rd. This is in Aitkin MN north of the Twin Cities. The Glacial Lake Brewers will hold its annual group brew day on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Block North Brew Pub. This event is FREE to anyone interested in free wort to take home...

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

My Willamette does not grow well so next spring it gets dug up and moved to the farm. See if the change in scenery makes a difference. Nugget hops on the other side, stand back because they are monsters. The one I have ignored is probably 14' with leaves as big as my hand.

    What are you drinking now?

Second pint of my American brown ale. So good after being in the keg since fall. Think it is better then when it was a month old. I am not counting the pint I poured for my wife to make honey beer bread this morning. Is it my fault that when she said she needed 2 cups I thought she said 2...

What no one wants to say

At one time the only way to get a decent beer with flavor and especially a dark one was to brew your own. Now with thousands of breweries the variety is there so why brew. A brewery with a nice clean kolsch or brown ale, yum I will take another pint please. With a brewery every half mile you...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I was not impressed using Hornindal. I liked it using Nottingham and also S-04 in the mid to upper 60s.

Free wort day in Minnesota Cancelled

The president of the club is also the head brewer and owner of Block North Brew Pub. We select the recipe and then mash in, have coffee and rolls and chat while we wait. Sometimes even sample new brews before they go on tap. Then assist with mash out and transfer to buckets. Trying to get more...

Free wort day in Minnesota Cancelled

Well we had to cancel as not enough participants and could not justify dumping 25 gallons of wort.

Best names for your beer batch?

Split a big batch of wort and made two different cream ales. One was Bippity Boppity Brew and the other was AbracadaBrew. No I am not creative. Left names to my wife
