    Spent grain disposal

I've done the dog treats, but even a pound or two of steeping grains makes a lot. Some people use in bread, but again, doesn't take much. You may be hard pressed to use 32 pounds in any kind of cooking. COmposting would be good, but may attract unwanted varmits.

    Recommendations New Recipe

I started a similar thread here. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/brew-recipe-builder-type-site-284457/ Go to post #4. The "beer calculus" may be similar to what you're looking for.

    Brewing Beer...but breaking the bank.

Plus 1 to Farmhouse. You can get good prices at the 4 ounce level, allowing you to try a lot of varieties.

    It exploded.

Wow. Just saw your pic. I made that same kit and didn't have near that active of a fermentation. Did you jsut pitch the one pack of yeast? What was you fermentation temp?

    It exploded.

Like others have said, sanitize lid and put back on. You're probably fine. In future, maybe use blowoff tube instead of airlock, or don't put lid on tight, just set it on top without sealing. It may still come out the top, but won't explode. I bought a 7.9 gal fermentor instead of the 6.5 to...

    Cheap DIY Fermentor

    Cheap DIY Fermentor

I've gotten a lot of thea 5 gal bakery buckets. Some stores recycle, some will give them to you. Some will even save them for you. All depends on the store and the emplooyee working there at the time. I just split a 5 gal. batch into two of these with 2.5 gal in each, fitted with airlock...

2 row - Briess or Malteurop

Thanks for the feedback. Think I'll go with Malteurop. Not a lot of love for the Briess.

2 row - Briess or Malteurop

Getting ready to try BIAB. Have done only extract kits to date. After trying a batch or two, want to look into buying ingredients in bulk. My options for a 50 pound sack at LHBS’s for 2 row are Malteurop or Breiss. Both within a couple bucks on price. Does anyone who has used both have an...

dry malt extract in yeast starters

I've heard of the Malta Goya as well, but thinking DME is probably cheaper. Some guys just freeze some wort to have on hand whenever needed. I've read you shouldn't use regular table sugar

    Creative ways to cool wort...

If you go the ice bath route, you could first use just cold water from the tap a couple times before using the ice. This will take a lot of the heat down and save some ice. Especailly in winter when tap water is pretty cold. Did this on the last batch I made and was suprised how much effect the...

    rubber grommet hole size

Thanks, biggest bit I have isn't going to be big enough, so I'll have to file it out.

    rubber grommet hole size

How big of a hole do I need to drill in a plastic bucket lid to install the standard rubber grommet an airlock goes into?

    Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre

I too am a fan of this. Will have to try to make it sometime. At 8%, yes it can get you hammered.

    Greetings from Cleveland

Greetings and welcome from southern Ohio. If you're thinking of going all grain be sure to check out all the BIAB (brew in a bag) threads, since you already have a big pot. A way to go all grain without anymore equipment than you already have, other than a 2 dollar paint strainer bag.

    Greetings from Orlando, FL!

Greetings Scoby, and welcome. I'm sure you can find whatever your need to get you started homebrewing here. Never tried any Kombucha. I just know it's sime kind of fermented tea. Is there alcohol in it? How does it taste compared to regualr tea? Might be fun to try. I know there is a...
