Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

I'm jealous. Best I can find locally is in the $42 to $46 range for 2 row- plus tax. No group buys in my area that I'm aware of.

First screw up... boy.. with pic

Never knew the official term for it, but that is my reaction too, when I drop something breakable. I instinctively try to break the fall with my foot. Not sure about a carboy full of wort though.

    First BIAB

OK, now I see. I'm using a 7.5 gall turkey fryer and the bags fit around teh top perfectly. Hence my confusion on the two bags. Thanks for explaining

    First BIAB

Wiembrew... Could you elaborate on the two bags. Was this done in two separate kettles, or two bags in one kettle or what? I just did my first BIAB and trying to understand. How big was your kettle/kettles

First screw up... boy.. with pic

I was thinking this as well. The inside of the cooler wouldn't be like hitting on concrete or something. What was the temp difference between the wort and water in cooler? I just picked up an old 5 gallon water jug for 5 bucks. It's from the Minehaha water company. The glass seems really...

    Primary fermentation

As others have stated, the only way to know for sure is checking gravity to be sure it has stopped dropping. That being said, if you don't have a hydrometer, you are most likely fine to bottle after 4 weeks. I don't check gravities (lazy I guess) and just wait 4 weeks and bottle. Have not had a...

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

Thought about a barley crusher, but with the $100 I'd save with a corona, I could get 2 sacks of grain. And people seem to have good success with the corona.

    BIAB tactical error

If you're doing a 5 gal batch you will need bigger than 5 gal pot. you should start with 6 to 6.5 gall of wort to allow for boil off during the hour long boil. I have a 7.5 gal turkey fryer and it is just barely big enough for 5 gal BIAB

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

Stan, Like the looks of the one you got. Larger hopper and a cover over the grinding wheels to keep the grain from flying out the top. And yeah, looks like the walmart ship to store would save the shipping costs. Have you tried powering yours with a drill? Looks like the pin thing that goes...

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

Thanks for the replies. Lots of love for the Grizzly. Will check that out.

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

Have read the seemingly endless threads (ugly corona mill and Using a pasta maker to mill grain) and trying to decide which way to go. I think I’m leaning toward the Corona at this point. Does anyone have experience with both and which do you prefer and why? Also, other than on-line...

Store Bottles Laying Down or Upright?

I would think storing upright would give a tighter yeast cake on teh bottom of the bottle. unlike wine which is best stored sideways to keep cork moist

    First BIAB attempt

Nice Price. Do you hand crank, use drill, or what? How fast does it go through the grain?

Bringing homebrewing up in a job interview

Tough call. If interviewer was a beer drinker, you probably scored some points. If a teatotaler, not so much. but I'd have probably mentioned it if ask about hobbies. what's done is done so go have a brew.

Any Sightings of Bigfoot 2012 yet?

Saw it in Cincinnati at Jungle Jims last week. Didn't seem to have a huge supply though.

    First BIAB attempt

Yes, would like a corona. Probably go with whatever I find cheap at a garage sale first.

    First BIAB attempt

Yes, excellent point. Our mash paddle, if you'd call it that is small plastic paddle with holes in it. May have to look into something a little more substantial for better mixing

    First BIAB attempt

After brewing nine extract batches, took the leap to BIAB, after reading all about it on HBT. It’s an Irish Blonde ale. We were already using a turkey fryer set up, so the only thing we needed to buy was the bag. Got the large paint strainer bag (2 for $5 at Home Depot). Couple of issues...

    WTB Barley Crusher

Seems used grain mills are a bit hard to come by. You can get a new one including shipping for $132.
