    Soapy Taste in Session IPA

I once did a cascade and ahtanum pale ale and it had a soapy character to it. Recently tried a bottle that's almost a year old. Still soapy. This is the only batch that I've ever had this happen on.

    Software or pen and paper?

I use I brewmaster on my I phone and also write down the specifics in my brew log while brewing. Software is pretty hard to beat as it will help you hit your numbers and get a better idea of where your final product is gonna end up.

Can You Help Me Plan a Belgian Strong Ale? Please.

+1 to what solbes said also! High gravity brewing should be something to look into once you've got yeast pitch rates and fermentation temp control.

Can You Help Me Plan a Belgian Strong Ale? Please.

First you need to get setup for all grain. Look into making a mash tun out of either a rectangle cooler or tall 10 gallon water cooler. You will need to make or buy a false bottom or take a steel braided hose from lowes and convert it to the equivelant of a bazooka tube. As far a recipe 90%...

Yeast options for warmer summer-time brewing

No he hasn't but 3711 would probably work quite well with ginger.

Yeast options for warmer summer-time brewing

I think you should go with wy 3711 French Saison. It's got some nice fruity esters that plays nice with hops and isn't as in your face spicy/clovey as a lot of other Belgian strains. You got perfect temps for that yeast and its gonna get you bone dry. 1.004-1.006 depending on your OG. I...

    Carbination over time...

And you shouldn't be bottling these wild beers until your FG is at least 1.008 or less. What is your FG when you bottle and what kind of primary yeast are you using??

    Carbination over time...

You are correct. Your bottles probably have some Brett or wild bugs in them and are eating the sugars that brewers yeast cannot. You should get your bottles in a fridge ASAP or you run the risk of bottle bombs! The cold temps of a fridge will stop fermentation in the bottle and save you a...

    Keg sanitizing with boiling water.

A thread on another forum made me wonder if this would work?

    Keg sanitizing with boiling water.

I currently do the same procedure you do but I was just interested to see if anyone out their does use the boiling water approach and if they have had any issues.

    Keg sanitizing with boiling water.

Was wondering if anyone out their sanitizes/sterilizes their keg with boiling water? I was thinking about possibly adding 2.5 gallons of boiling water to my corny keg and immediately sealing it. The water will sterilize the lower half the keg and the steam will sterilize the upper half. This...

Getting ready for my first cider

Yes the psi would be the same scale as ales but ciders are usually not as highly carbed as most beers are.

Getting ready for my first cider

After re-watching the BTV hard cider episode I've got a hankering for some hard cider!! I'm going the cheap route, store bought pasteurized apple cider, lavlin dry white wine yeast, light brown sugar to boost the ABV. In the episode Chris uses yeast energizer and something else before...

    How to measure yeast?

If you use jamils mrmalty.com yeast calculator he has a pitch from slurry option that will give you a ballpark idea of what you have.

    Brewers near dubois pa. ?

Were gonna try a few in like a month or month and a half fresh then try it periodically every few months. I think brewing one now would be good for Christmas and years to come. Just pitch lots of healty yeast and oxygenate the nuts off it.

    Brewers near dubois pa. ?

That was an awesome brew day. Our Barleywine OG was 1.100, second beer a sterling hopped lager OG 1.047, and we added more grain for our last beer which is a 1.040 OG Australian hopped Saison thing which is being fermented with a wild yeast that mike cultured off some backyard raspberries...

Ice Concentration, Separation, Refermentation, & Resurrection

I was lucky enough to have a taste of mikes ICE monster and it was really really nice. Tasted like a roasty coffee liqueur. Hopefully the next time we hang out wel be using this beer for a mocha stout milk shake float type concoction.
